an article about the 2003 Michigan State Police tests

Another prototype Crown Victoria at the Michigan test attracted a lot of attention for one very good reason. It was fast—very fast. The experimental Crown Vic sports a slightly detuned Mercury Marauder engine for truly impressive performance—in the LT-1 Caprice category with a 141-mph top speed. But don’t go and hammer your Ford Dealer for one, just yet. There are several technical hurdles to overcome

Well, they are going to have to do something to keep up with us....

"...a slightly detuned Mercury Marauder engine..."

Wait a minute...isn't the Marauder engine a slightly detuned Cobra engine?

They won't stand a chance against a slightly modded Marauder engine..... ;)

"Every Cop I've talk to wishes they could get the Marauder engine in their Crown Vic's"

This really makes me chuckle. I'm with a big city metro PD, and the vast majority of patrol officers here know very little about cars, or, how to handle them properly in emergency situations. Of course, they THINK they know, don't we all...

Around here, you don't get sent to driving school until after you trash 2 cars, after they see that you are persistent (crazy) and determined (overzealous), then they train you to drive better. Though the school is a blast, it's viewed as punishment by the command staff. The thought of any one of these "vast majority" types driving anything near stock MM performance makes me laugh out loud. I imagine their immediate reaction to the power and control, and I expect there would be more that a few missions to residence for "an equipment change," especially if you happen to be the passenger...Hoowee, baby.

SergntMac I agree with what you say. I suspect most Police Chiefs and Sheriffs do not want the majority of their people driving high performance engines vehicles.

With the rumoured introduction of a RWD Dodge Police vehicle powered by the new version of the Hemi, Ford has to react with something.

Hell, I've had off duties ask me if I wanted to race. I was like, you're kidding, right? Anyway, I decliened at the time because I was actually just sitting in a parking lot, waiting on my buddy to get something from the gas station. Just wasn't in the mood, although I wish I could find that guy again... :D

It was only a matter of time. Remember Crown Vic are not our competition SABLE'S are.   I feel the more development this motor gets the better for the MM program in the long run. They already put this engine in the new Aviator and it is a blast to drive! I tested one last weekend. The Mustang people did not seem to mind when we got a version of their engine so I say why not? The very fiirst weekend I had my MM a local (friend) ran his CVPI against the MM on a back road. He loved the MM! More so after I let him drive it!

At last somebody thinks wisely that's an Waesome engine for a heavy duty Panther the crap,*****,garbage Dodge Police charger must be eliminated in fact the gears of the police Interceptor must be changed from 3.73 to 4.10 and a 4R75W Transmission with J-mod.

In fact I have this suggestions to mod the Ford C.V.P.I.

Hood, trunk lid, roof instead of steel in aluminum.

Billstein shocks instead of Motorcraft ones.

H.I.D. headlights

Solid steel bumpers instead of aluminum.

Colors only Black and dark blue.

Heavy Duty more amperage alternator.

Both power frnt left & right seats.

more lighter and heavy duty aluminum wheels and eliminate the steel ones.

Driver/passenger spotlights.

Increase the speed from 140 Mph to 160 Mph and eliminate speed limiter.

More capacity Transmision and engine pan and aluminum instead of steel.

If I have more ideas I will post it fast as possible.

and then it's priced too high for cities and towns to afford them and they'll look elsewhere. It's OK to dream, though....

I believe the Ford 6.2 litre Hurricane engine project has been resurrected after being temporarily canceled. Talk about an "interceptor". The engine can't come soon enough.

We just got a bunch of the new Charger patrol units....5.7ltr Hemi along with a ridiculous amount of leg and head room. I hope this new competition will keep Ford in the performance-sedan market....

I am not familiar with that, do you have any info? Will it be a 4v or are they a thing of the past?

As I recall from the article in Automotive News, the engine was aluminum and a 4 valver. Not much else was revealed except that it would be a "hemi" fighter. Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned.

ford also has chevy to worry about. i was talking to chicago police yesterday they were driving a new 06 305 hp v8 impala. they said they like it.but they wish it had the p71's room. they also said its way faster and can out handel the cv. and that last years impala v6 was a p.o.s. I talk to uic police all the time they hate there impalas just ordered 4 more p71cv's said chargers cost too much... uic police also say the v6 impala gets 0 to 60 faster than a v8 ford and thats all they want. one guy said if ford would put the power thats in your marauder in there police cars they would make police agencys all over this country very happy... wake up FORD!!!

It's amazing to me that a 3.8 litre V-6 can out accelerate a 4.6 litre V-8 even with the P I's 3.55 rear axle ratio.

That answered something I was wondering. the NYPD has 06 Impala's in service as of a few months ago and I was curious if they has the SS engine or a V-6.

I know they have dual exhausts.

Actually, the 06' Impala "9C1" and "9C3" have a 3.9 litre "HO" V-6 rated at 242 HP with a 142 MPH top end.....the Impala SS version V-8 is not available (at least for this year).

According to the Michigan State Police police car tests from late last year, only the 5.7 litre "Hemi" powered Charger and Magnum was able to out-perform the Impala, among a field of 3.5 litre V-6 Chargers, Magnums, and Crown Vic police interceptors (with both the 3.27 and 3.55 rear axle ratios).

Also, the 06 Impala police cars do not have duel exhaust.....it's a single exhaust with duel outlets.........

I don't believe that the 07' models are out yet. Mine's an 06' that was issued to me new back in May (had to turn in my old 00' CVPI) and the exhaust note sounds very similar to the 97' and newer 3.8 litre Pontiac Grand Prix GT/GTP's note, only not as loud.

Anyway, here's a link to GM's PDF version Police Catalog......has all the specs for the 9C1/9C3, plus a few other details about all of their "special purpose" vehicles.......
