I know in the late 80's, early 90's, Ford gave demo cassets when a car got a Premium Audio System. The tape was usually composed of popular music of the time, and good instrumental music to show what the system could do. FF to today, we have amps, subs, and CD decks coming with the car, but no demo? Wouldn't it be something to comprise a demo CD JUST for our Marauders? What IF, we all get together, come up with all time songs to put on a CD (19-20 songs)? I COULD probably do this at a minimal cost (gotta love Kazaa!). And, like the emblems that are being decided about, we can make our own custom CD lable. What says it gentleman? Just a thought...

Oh, guess I should put my suggestion on here huh? Well, my first pick would be "Born To Be Wild." AHH! Wait wait wait! Unload your gun RF! Just kidding... No, for sure "Crazy Bout A Mercury" would have to be track #1. Possibly some Beach Boy's music?

White Knuckle's daughter already did this -- and some awesomes songs indeed. She even burned me a copy and sent it in a very cool CD case with a marauder image and everything.

I burned a dozen or so CD's for different moods. All kinds of fun music.

Just suggesting, and not in this order...

Bad to the Bone... George Thorogood

Magic Bus (long version)...The Who

Born to Run...Springsteen.

Born In the USA...Springsteen

Closing Time...Leonard Cohen

Wanted Dead or Alive...Bon Jovi.

Blaze of Glory...Bon Jovi.

Anything from Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell album, better yet, all of it.

That's enough for now, I'll have more to suggest after I think about it a day or two.

If I was allowed only one choice...It's Closing Time.

PS. added after post;

Oh yeah...let's not forget FMCs new "anthem." Start Me Up by the Stones.

The MM is a sinister-looking car. My thinking is more toward the evil side. In other words, anything by the Misfits. If y'all don't know them, it's Glenn Danzig's 1st band, before Samhain. If I had to choose 1 Misfits song...thinking...first I'll suggest "On Her Black Wings" by Danzig. "Archangel" by Samhain (VERY dark song). Most harder bands out these days are really only shallow copies of stuff from my younger days (I'm 40). I do agree with "Crazy Bout a Mercury" by Alan Jackson. Also, there would have to be a Johnny Cash song. John Cash is GOD.

All right. "Vampira" by the Misfits. Anyone into those old farts Metallica ought to remember that they have covered 3 Misfits songs.

"Black #1" by Type O Negative.

"Links-2-3-4" by Rammstein.

"The Gauntlet" by Dropkick Murphys.

"Detroit Rock City" by KISS

Maybe "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath. Maybe something better.

"Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus

"Ace of Spades" by Motorhead. Definitely "Ace of Spades."

I like all that you've suggested plus I need big band sound from my era (don't you hate old guys like me). Harry Jame's band beating out 1 O'Clock Jump will raise the whole car about 4 feet off the pavement. That's what happens in my '89 GM. Oh yeah, I've got an MP3 player so I can fit everything onto one or two discs. I love all your choices, but looks like it'll take an MP3 player to get it all on one disc. Time to look at the upgrades to the audio system again.

On one of my first drives in the MM, "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner came on..seemed PERFECT for the car. If this car had theme music, it would be 70s rock IMO.

Oh and on the Ford demo tapes, they bring back a lot of memories. They called them the "Ford Family of Fine Music" and we still joke about them. My Parents drove Fords, Lincs, and Mercs from the late 60s to the present. '71 Cougar XR7 (new), T-Birds, from the 70s boats to the Turbo Coupe, a couple of 70s Town cars with the 460s, the German Capri, Lincoln Versailles, Bronco II, Topaz (yeech), finally settling on Explorers.

I remember being stuck on a long trip, no decent radio, with one of those Ford Family of Fine Music tapes the only thing in the car. Must have listened to that "Hush Hush" song by Till Tueday 50 times...Ah memories.

Ahh...well...okay...To each his own, no flame intended by this.

As I read Smith's "One O'Clock Jump" suggestion, I said to myself "oh yeah, that would be way too cool," only to realize that I really missed out on everything you mention in your list. I haven't heard a word of one of them, artist or song, 'cept Cash, and "Ring of Fire" would fit. I know who Alan Jackson is, but the song doesn't come to mind. I guess I should listen to the radio more...

I do strongly disagree with your "sinister" spin, this car delivers nothing but elation and joy, ask anyone here. It may be black, but black is style. It's big, but big is good in my book. It's fast, even in it's slower factory version, so, exactly what is sinister about this car? Is it sneaky? Underhanded? Cheating? How does sinister fit here?

As "undercover" as the MM may inspire in thought, other threads here show that others do see us very clearly.

Nevermind...Sorry...To each his own, maybe it's just me...At least I ruled out the Disco years, despite the obvious "I Will Survive" temptation. Sorry, Gloria...

Why, at 40, I feel very young right now. Guys my age or a bit younger look at me, with all the tattoos, and say "Axel Rose!", even though I've kept my head shaved for the better part of the past 20 years (I've lost NONE of it naturally), long before it became trendy for guys. Kids in their teens and twenties never make the connection, because if you look at all the CURRENT rock bands, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting some guy covered with tattoos.

I don't know of any band named Marauder, but there certainly is one called Chevelle. Don't forget where I'm coming from; I view Metallica as being dried-up, old farts. My musical tastes are very eclectic, but I don't think Celtic folk music appropriate to this thread, though I am into that, also.

Just had an epiphany. There is a rockabilly/harcore/metal band from 10 yrs ago called Elvis Hitler. The CD Disgraceland contains "Hot Rod to Hell." The CD Hellbilly contains "Black Death on a White Horse." I'd take either.

Way too commercial for me, but I still would take "Dragula" by Rob Zombie, a good hot rod song.

Please, nothing gay, e.g. Elton John. Queen was the 1st band I ever was crazy about, at 14, but that would qualify now as gay, since Freddie Mercury came out of the closet in the 80's. No gay. Nothing gay. Saying no to gayness. Say no to political correctness!

Edited for poor taste

I 'll pass the wigger question, but have to say that Queen's music got me to look past Freddie's other talents.

NazSok, look up an artist by the name of Paul Mounsey, he has 3 CDs out there, Nahoo, Nahoo Too, and Nahoo--Notes from the Republic. He's kinda out there too, if ya know what I mean. I think they are great works, maybe you'll enjoy them. Very off the beaten path in Celt rock, some good driving tunes, but too obsecure to mention here.

Oh yeah...what with the "swing a dead cat" thingy, where are all these dead cats comming from and who's killing them...You live in Chinatown?

Classical good, too. The main riff from Carmina Burana is very apropos; it's been ripped off by every other movie soundtrack, etc. But there are so many great parts, especially near the end, that are still unspoiled by commercialism. Get y'all singin' in Latin! Something by a good Russian composer, i.e. Rimski-Korsakov, Moussorgsky, Glazunov or Borodin, maybe. The Russians had the most powerful symphonic works, but maybe that's my Slavic heritage speaking. Sorry. No Tchaikovsky. Too fruity, if ya know what I mean.

LML...We're not done yet, are we?

I get your point on the music, your list is rounding out nicely. Looking at that list, I would prefer to hear Roll Me Away by Seger, over Paridise by the Dashboard Light, and please try to fit One O'Clock Jump in if you can? It moves...

LincMercLover
01-16-2003, 06:41 AM
Are we talking Black Bear Road? One O'Clock Jump nothing but music then, since there's no lyrics? Seager's Roll Me Away is added. Meat Loaf stays. :D Considering Slowpoke's Mozart...

Now, for some rendition questions... I've got Hot Rod Lincoln by Comander Cody, really good version! With Magic Carpet ride, do we want the newer version (popish), or the oldie? Paint it Black, by Stone or Deep Purple? I Can't Drive 55 was said to be done by Billie Squire, but I was thinking Sammy Hagar? So far, that's all...

New list:

Crazy Bout A Mercury
Bad To The Bone
Paradise By The Dashboard Lights
Another One Bites The Dust
Hot Rod Lincoln
Paint It Black
I Can't Drive 55
Magic Carpet Ride
Back In Black
Highway To Hell
"God of Thunder" Kiss
"Radar Lover" Golden Earring
Santana - Black Magic Woman
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Start Me Up - Rolling Stones
Roll Away - Bob Seager
One O'Clock Jump

Got about 3 to go...

SergntMac
01-16-2003, 08:22 AM
LML...Songs have lyrics, tunes do not. Black Bear is a tune, and a rather invigorating tune it is, but I think RC is just teasing you. One O'Clock jump is also a tune, but it jumps, makes you want to drive faster. To other questions, I suggest;

1) Commander Cody
2) Original version
3) Stones
4) Squire

For last 3 songs, somthing driving from Bon Jovi maybe?

I thought 55 was by Hagar too, but all the older (err... I mean more expirienced ;) ) members say no... I'll need someone to send me that version though, as I can't find it.

I was thinking maybe James Browns - Papa's Gotta Brand New Bag? I know it's Pontiac, but it's a cool song.

Well guys, sorry no updates lately, but I was gone for the holiday weekend. Here's where we stand. If I can get someone to get me this other version of 55, I think we'll have a full CD. Here we go...

Crazy Bout A Mercury (done)
Bad To The Bone (done)
Bat Out Of Hell (done)
Paradise By The Dashboard Lights (done)
Another One Bites The Dust (done)
Hot Rod Lincoln (done)
Paint It Black - Stones (done)
I Can't Drive 55 - Billie Squier
Magic Carpet Ride (done)
Back In Black (done)
Highway To Hell
"God of Thunder" Kiss (done)
"Radar Lover" Golden Earring (done)
Santana - Black Magic Woman (done)
Deep Purple - Highway Star (done)
Start Me Up - Rolling Stones (done)
Roll Away - Bob Seager (done)
One O'Clock Jump - Harry James (done)
Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby

Sarge, get me Machines and I'll see what I can do. If anyone has suggestions of change, go right on ahead and suggest! I'll check on prices tomorrow and tell you all what the total will be per CD. At that point I'll give you all a place to send in orders. I don't expect this to be ANYWHERE near what a normal CD would cost, in fact, maybe half that price. Sound good? Let's get this baby finished up!

Looking at your line-up, LML, I don't think Machines will fit well anymore, so, let's pass on it.

You've done a great job on this project so far, on behalf of everyone here, mucho thanks.

OK, here's the gist. Although I won't know EXACT shipping cost untill I actually have one made, packed, and on the wheighing thingy, it looks like $5 per CD. Reasonable?

Still need to know what we're doing about Can't Drive 55...

what is now the World Record thread, LML. and, I DO think this is a GREAT idea and you've had EXCELLENT suggestions. I just have to say (especially with all the Jersey boys arund here) that I CAN'T believe Springsteen didn't make the Soundtrack.

Just my VERY humble opinion.

Sorry, it's not the record yet, but it has that potential. Another thread here broke 100, and I'm sure there are others I don't know about.

LML..5 buck a copy is great, have an Idea for you. I don't know much about this techy stuff, but my burner software has the ability to create a disk image. It may be worthwhile to create an image of the disk and upload it here in the archive, and let us make our own CD? Just an idea, thanks again.

::puts on his asbestos undies::

Bruce Springsteen is a talented performer and song writer. But I would rather hear Bob Dylan, with a bucket over his head and a weasel in his fruit of the looms.

Having been in High School when "Born in the USA" was released, it was so over played, I got sick of it, and so many of his songs start sounding the same.

::climbs into Bomb shelter:: Same thing for Led Zepplien

"In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin' out over the line" - Born To Run

The crecendo of this song is GREAT as you peg it at 140...I know from earier today.

LOL, no offense to anyone but the demographic for the Marauder sure fits most of the songs you all suggest. From this I can tell most posting here are in early 40's to late 50's. Aging baby boomer all! LOL I am one too. 1956!

Generation X defies definition

by Jennifer Jochim, Outpost Contributor

Generation X can technically be defined as the generation following the Baby Boomers. Xers were born between 1965 and 1980, 1961 and 1981, 1964 and 1979, 1963 and 1979, 1965 and 1975 or since the mid-1960s, depending on which source you use. For practical purposes we will say that Generation X was born between 1965 and 1980, now ranging in age from 17-32 and usually judged by characteristics assigned to them by the media.

And, yes...I saw Billy Idol live when he sang lead for Generation X, before there was a Billy Idol. Wait, LML...you probably aren't old enough to know who that is

JK!

I'm going to be 18 on thursday, and I was born in 1985, so I think your calculations are a little off. And yes I know who Billie Idol is.

I appreciate the comment marauderman! I look to be part of the team, and not looked upon as some kid who ended up with a Marauder and god knows what he's going to do with it now... I try to stand apart from the crowd. I'm a perfectionist with my old cars. There hasn't been an old beat up hunk of junk that I didn't get to roll under it's own will (even if it was for only ten seconds or so). I tinker. I play. I have fun. Turn key go doesn't please me. I got to be able to do something with it. The car is me, I am the car. As I always say, "Cars are people too." Granted, these newer systems are just starting to make light to me, like many. Being the son of my Dad, who was the head mechanic of all, I've learned a lot. And me being so interested and adapted to reading up on things, I've taught him a lot. I try to help around here with a little added humor. Some may not get my humor because of my age, but that's ok. I don't get EVERYTHING everyone else here says either. No one gets everyone. But we're still family here. And what a family we've become. I shun the thought of who I park with on the lot, because the represent so much I'm not. I've been mistaken for a GenXer, taken for 23+ by an older (older than me anyway) lady in a jewelry store. I do believe I'm in the wrong time period, but hey, we're all here for something right? Just don't call me the neive little kid, and I won't call you an old fart. K?:coolman:  :D

LML......I am 51......grew up in the 60's and worked on a lot of Detroit iron back then . From what I have read since I have been on here, you remind me of me when I was 18. (and yes that is a compliment)
I would be proud to hang with you and some of the others on here as well anytime. And yeah......it is kinda like family here. Which is pretty damn cool. Oopps almost forgot.......Happy Birthday on Thursday.

I hate to have to do this, but I was nicely reminded by a few folks that this constitutes illegal distribution of copywrighted material and I can't allow it on this site.

In all honesty I should've stopped this a while ago but honestly hadn't even seen the potential for issue. Unfortunately, to condone it would be to potentially put the site in jeopardy.

But, there is a significant enough issue here that I'd ask this discussion be terminated and not continued on this site.
