Dodge Charger Is Ready

Sources say a Dodge Charger is now confirmed. Many expect it to be shown in January 2005, with production originally slated for summer 2005, but apparently pushed up to February-March 2005. It will have a 6.1 Supercharged HEMI and will almost look identicle to the Chargers of old. Several sources have now converged on 420 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque for the 6.1 Hemi in the Charger SRT-8 but numbers have been quaratined about the S/C Hp and TQ ratings.

Fellas all I can do is say............MOPAR has made a comeback full circle. Only thing is they are not telling the price of the new Charger. I bet those guys who are making the Chevelle will produce a Superbird version of the Charger and sell it for about $200,000 ya think?

I do not believe that the 6.1L Engine is a HEMI.
It is most likely a Mercedes Benz V8 Kompressor engine.
Hence the Supercharger.

They already use a 5.5L in the S55 AMG and other models.
Rated at 469HP / 516TQ. 0-60 in 4.5 sec for most models.
It wouldn't take much to make it a 6.1.

I had just commented several weeks ago what the outcome might be if somebody like Pontiac introduced a new GTO that took on the appearance of an old 1966 or 1967,

If Dodge makes an exact replica of the 1969 or 1970 Charger R/T I will buy 2 of them. While many probably don't remember them, I would love to see them produce a 1970 Coronet R/T again.

Hey i am just going off of the MOPAR magazines. The concept Charger that is shown on the Popular Hotrodding site is not the look of the new Charger. That was done by a college student using a 3-D program. I am very eager to see what the Charger will look like and what the performance will be.

With Ford abandoning us by killing the Marauder I'll be looking at anything affordable with a V8 and some style and room. I'll give the Charger a look.

My 68 Charger was my favorite big car prior to the Marauder.

They sure had a run with style back then. 68 to about 73 imho. The coronet 500 was very cool I remember those clearly. Super Bees also (That's what I'd buy if I could afford it) I can't picture a Coronet R/T

Still I would hesitate as it is not American any longer.

PS I think they came close with the Magnum but they were so concerned with style that the rear opening is to small. They had to make an oddball "L" shaped hatch to make it work. The rear glass doesn't go down so stuff can't stick out without leaving the "L" hatch up.

It will be a 4 door sedan 5.7L Hemi.

A new charger is expected to hit the road somewhere around 2006. 2006 Dodge Charger is expected to be on the same lines as rear wheel drive Chrysler 300C, which is a sedan. Dodge released Charger before as a 4-door concept car in 1999 but how much the car introduced in 2006 will have resemblence with the old car is not known. Most probably the new Charger would come with both left & right-hand drive.

A lower V6 model may also be offered, along with possible coupe and all-wheel-drive variations. It also packs numerous Mercedes Benz parts.

Rear-drive sedan will replace the cab-forward Intrepid. The Charger is expected to offer 3.7L V-6 and 4.7L V-8 engine option, with the Charger R/T featuring the new 5.7L Hemi V-8.

One good things about the Charger is that it will be very easy to spot. If it does wind up with a 6.1 and S/C I won't be trying to race one any time soon.

This whole retro thing is kinda cool, in my opinion. I would like to see them keep this going. It is a sure fire way to take sales away from foreign makers. Think about it. What cars made by Germany or Japan in the 60's can Germany or Japan trade on the nostalgie of??? Not BMW, not, not MB, not Honda, Nissan or Toyota had anything the 60's that your average American car guy would drool about.

Smart move, Detroit. Keep it going.

I agree. The 1968 Charger R/T was a looker and a performer. I had a 1974 Blue Charger SE and took it to Germany. Man, it was great on the autobahns; but still had to move to the center lane to let the Porsche 911 Carreras, Lamborghini's and Ferrari's pass and some BMW Motorcycles too !!!

I had a 1966 charger (first year they made them). It had the 383 and was pretty quick. I was happy when I got 12 MPG on the highway.

Kept it for 10 years and sold it to my cousin. 2 years later it was stolen and never seen again. :mad2:

Doesn't surprise me that the Coronet R/T would be in the top 50. A girl I use to date in High School back in 1970 had a brand new R/T. Blue with a black vinyl top, 4 speed. Her mother had no idea what she had bought her daughter. We had a blast in her car!

I talked to her a few weeks ago as she was leaving a school my daughter attends during the summer. She drives a 4 wheel drive Outback wagon now! :)

Until I read something directly from DCX themselves, this is nothing more than magazine writers trying to sell magazines, and being wishful. (not that such a Charger wouldn't be nice in the market)

I suspect any new "charger" will be based largely on the 300. (think four doors, and a Dodge truck grille instead of the 300 "I just sucked a lemon" grille.

RC, Do you really think the charger will be on the 300 scale. I really dont think dodge will use te same body as the 300 and call it a charger or the magnum. I dont know how the charger will look but just like cars in the past I am going by what dodge was saying at the Auto shows. Magazines are here to sell but Dodge is out to make money also. I bet Dodge leaked a little info out just to stir things up. But in the end who know you may be driving one also!

(that sound is burned into my memory forever... not only because I used the soundtrack for my voice mail greeting for years, but since moving to our new place and buying the DVD of this movie, my son has had that scene (scene 14, I think) playing OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again in our TV room... I love that kid! :D )

Same here. I will never forget it.

In 1973 we had brand new Plymouth Gran Furys with the 440 magnum police package in the Sheriff's Office. If you remember them as well, they had one of the loudest exhausts on any factory car ever produced. This was back before the county administration snookered people into creating a "police force". We use to go to our Lowes store, back up to the front door, and rev the engines. The loud exhaust would set off the alarm. It usually took about 12 to 15 seconds for the dispatcher to turn the audio alarm off in the sheriff's office and dispatch the call. We would mark "on location" within seconds. The dispatcher never could understand how we repeatedly got on location SO FAST! Until we broke down one day and told him how we were setting off the alarm ourselves!

On another note, as we rode by court square or around the downtown business district, the exhausts would actually vibrate windows and doors. :)
