View Full Version : Rear Badge Removal
Some questions about removal of the rear badge...
On my '03 Blue am I likely to have a paint fade issue?
Is it glued on or "posted" on?
How clean can I expect to get the rear deck lid after removal?
Is a full repaint of the hood necessary?
My dealer seems to think that paint face will be a concern and that a repaing (to the tune of $500.00) will be needed. I think he is crazy.
I could be wrong but hey, that is what you guys are for, right?

If you take the rear badge off you will have two small holes in the trunk where the badge was.
You'll need to get those "filled" and have the trunk repainted to have it look even.

And if I recall....without looking at your mod list....you had the trunk filled and painted...right?
I was gonna rip this rear badge off until I read this.
Decided just to leave it on for now...maybe go godshead.
Or something else I might have up my sleeve :D

Or something else I might have up my sleeve :DYes I did , but they did not have to paint the whole trunk . I first had the spoiler painted and installed first . then about 3-weeks later I decided to have the rear badge removed . they removed the badge which is held on by double sided sticky tape , filled the hole with a certain type of plug (Auto body shop should have that item-little bondo) , then they painted between the spoiler and the line on the trunk that seperates the metal part of the trunk from the lower plastic part of the trunk lid . body shop charged me 160.00-170.00 and it looks like there was never a badge in the first place . hope this helps your decission...;)

I gotta tell ya I always liked the waterfall/hockey stick emblems. Must just be me I guess. :coolman: I think they look cool.

The former owner put some light scratches in the clear coat of the top of the trunk lid when washing it so I am thinking about doing the entire trunk lid. It will depend on how the car looks after I get it polished and waxed next week.
If I decide to do the repaint of the entire trunk my main concern wil be how well they are able to match the paint. Do you guys have any words on that topic? The rest of what has been said has helpedd.

Hey Dan,
Do you have a spoiler?
If not, then the whole trunk painting would probably be best but pluged badge holes, touch up, and a light wet sand might be just fine.
If they screw up the wet sand then, oh well, repaint the trunk. It has to be sanded to do that anyway.

Does anyone know where exactly the holes in the trunk are after the removal of the rear badge? Are they directly below the small dots on the left and right of the badge?
Just curious...

One is at "9 o'clock" the other is at "3 o'clock". The one at "9 o'clock" is larger in size.
Yes, I have a spoiler. If it weren't for the scratches on top it would be easy to pain the rear surface only.
I am going for a polish and wax on Thu. If they come out I will go with the rear pain only. Otherwise I'll do the entire trunk.

Yes knowing you have a spoiler that is the best bet.
I try to avoid painting where parts are in direct contact like the spoiler and the deck lid. Sometimes if the prep isn't perfect you can have paint adhesion problems later.
