Folks,
I've asked Logan if he would put the link for OperationAC on this site.
I'd like to tell you about a woman in Delaware, Frankie Mayo. This is a mother of a soldier, stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. Her son deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. One day, he wrote back to her, for her to send him an air conditioner, seems his shaving cream can exploded, and soap melted. Well, that was the beginning of Operation AC (www.operationac.com (http://www.operationac.com/)) .
Recently she was on the Rush Limbaugh show explaining what she's been doing and what she's trying to do. In fact, she mentioned that she had a large number of ac units heading down to Camp Shelby Mississippi, for the 278th ACR (Tenn. Natl.Guard) for them to take with them when they deploy. As I happen to work at Fort Riley, I put her in contact with a unit on post, and she's shipping 200 ac units to Kansas.
She does this because as Americans, during WWII, we helped our soldiers "over there". And these troops, are peoples son's and daughters, and they could use a brief respite. With summer over there, the temperatures do get extremely hot, and to have some comfort during those times when they're not out performing their missions helps greatly.
She has had her share of setbacks, the postal system is not allowing her to ship ac units through the mail, due to a small amount of freon in them. So too has the military postal system in theater stopped he shipments. Therefore, she has been shipping via DHL, which tends to be pricey.
So, what is am I asking. If you've "been there, done that" you know the difficulties that soldiers go through when they go to the field, if you've deployed, then you really know how soldiers can be creative/resourceful, to make a lousy situation a bit more better. If you have loved ones deployed, or know someone that does, you've heard the stories of living conditions.
Help this nice lady help our troops. She has taken it upon herself to do this because of her son, and has helped other mothers sons... and daughters. How can you help? You can donate to her operation via the website, you can send her a check or money order. You can "adopt a soldier" via her website. You can spread the word to your friends. You can write your congressman and/or senator, asking them to help Frankie out with her postal problems.
We are a great country, that helps other nations when the call is sounded. The call is being sounded to help our soldiers deployed in harms way. This is one way to help them.

Help this wonderful woman help our soldiers, please!!
