Who out there carries their air with them to the track for when they want to reinflate their tires? I'm looking for a cheap, lightweight solution.

I was given a small compressor (weighed like 5#) that plugs into the cig. lighter and fills the tires very slowly. I've heard of other folks carrying small tanks around with them. Obviously these both have advantages and disadvantages.

However, I broke my compressor yesterday while filling and now need a replacement. What's the best solution?

Thanks,

I have a 5 gallon air tank for the track (good) and also this combo air compressor/work light/jump start power supply thing (better) . It inflates pretty fast- check out eBay.

Ask CRUZTAKER...I've been to the track with him plenty of times. He's got a nice looking set up. Hope this helps.

I bought a Coleman Powermate #6823 combo unit from Sears. It's runs off a rechargable battery, but will run off the cig. lighter and AC if need be. It will pump to 120PSI, but filling tires is slow, and I would expect any portable unit to be slow. It can recharge from AC or a car battery when not in use, and has a cig. lighter power outlet and a very handy neon work lamp. I think it was 39.99. Rather nifty, it's a keeper for travel or track.

I went to AutoZone and bought a 5lb. air tank, red, holds 125lbs. of air, and is small enough to sit on the passenger floorboard. I pasted it with cool (mod vendor) stickers, and my screen name, and carry a small chain and padlock to chain it to something at the track. I fill it from my compressor at home, or the local gas station in a pinch.

Best $23 I spent recently....er...aside from my Raffle tickets.

I think mine is an Ingersol Rand... plug in air compressor.

It's saved me a million times now... bike tires, autocrosses, rafts, track days, mom's tire looks low, etc.

Cheap, light weight, easy to carry all the time, and as long as the car is running never any trouble with the battery.

Its not real fast, but its so versatile that I usually just do something else while I'm pumping them up.

take care,

Greg

Hey Andrew...

Drop the PSI for the track...then when you get done...head up to Kwik Star (just north of the track) after you get done!

Free air there... :)

125 lbs. or air? Isn't that heavy to carry around?

Marty feeling better? Ready to litigate...?:D

125 pounds, short for PSI, pounds per square inch.

I know that - there's free air at lots of stations around here. I was asking so if I'm doing this in my garage or don't want to travel I can "git-r-done."
