UPR has just released an OD button with bracket for use with auto trans shifters that don't have an OD button --

You could use this with the SS Inserts automatic trans shifter knobs
here is a link to the OD button and bracket (scroll down the page a bit)

This thread feels a little weird to me, like maybe I'm being pulled too far from home? I'm not disappointed with my OEM shifter. I find it quite comfortable any way you measure it, both visually, and by my "seat of the hand."
However, I do like the looks of this carbon fiber shifter, as it's offered to us and I like that look very much. It would be a nice match, if the same glossy deep carbon fiber finish was available to match other cabin trim. I would hate like hell to change the other trim out just for looks, but I would, if it looked this good in the end, and it was a complete "no-brainer" change.
However, to learn that our vendor here doesn't know about our OD button is disappointing. The install may be complicated, because the vendor didn't finish his homework. Moreover, to read added posts of how we could cure this, rather than question it, is likewise disappointing. Fix this with even more mods purchased from even another vendor?
Well, IMHO, we're reaching now, maybe reaching too far?
Like I said, I like the OEM shifter where it is. I like how it looks, how it feels and most importantly, how it operates. I like my left hand on the wheel at ten o'clock there, and my right hand on my shifter, at four o'clock there. This feels balanced and sure to me, moreso when I'm in the twisties...Thanks y'all, but no thanks, IMHO.
Hey, I gotta ask...Mercury did something right, somewhere, right?

Changing out the shifter may not be everyone's cup of tea, but some may want to go with a different look. Auto trans shifters have been available, but until an O/D button accomodation was made, these shifters have been useless (though, I have heard of someone rigging up a remote OD button, though not a Marauder).
UPR was introducing an auto shifter for the Mustang, but also came up with a relocated OD button on a bracket. Their development, fortunately, solves the problem for interested buyers for SS Inserts auto trans shifters that also lack the OD button.
Sure, the Ford trans shifter has a convenient button (I've also driven three different makes of rental cars with OD buttons on or near their shifters), and it's an attractive shifter, imo. I likely will never change it, though I must admit I rather like the black annodized UPR auto trans shifter that looks like a manual trans shifter.
This is in the same category as wheels, or putting stripes on, or whatever. Whatever somebody wants to do with their money, well, if they are happy with the results, it's money well spent.
