Anybody's car that just doesn't turn over from time to time? We picked our new MM up at the dealership and headed home. Pulled over at a rest stop, got ready to leave and wouldn't crank. Fooled around getting in and out for about 5 minutes and it starts. After we got home, it did it a couple more times. I finally thought about the neutral start switch. I pushed forward on the shifter and it starts. Figured we would take it to the dealer next week for adjustment but it hasn't done it again. Do they adjust themselves. Hate to have the console and all disturbed if it's OK. Any ideas or similar experiences?

There is a thread if you use the Search that talks about many owners needing the sihfter cable adjusted. Yours may need it too.
Cheers!

Hate to have the console and all disturbed if it's OK.
The factory service manual lists the procedures for adjusting both the shift linkage and the digital Transmission Range sensor, which also controls the "neutral safety" function. Neither of these simple adjustments requires dismantling the console; they're both done from under the car...

Thanks Guys,
Guess we'll take it to a dealer. It just did it again this afternoon.

I haven't heard of '04s having this shift cable problem, just some of the '03s.
Hopefully that's all it is.

Try checking the connection on the right inner fender well. There are 3 connectors just behind the battery. The one closest to the front is for the starter. I've seen that one partially mated causing an intermittent no crank.

I'll check that to see if it's loose. Every time it fails, we push the shifter forward and it will start.

Sounds like you need an adjustment of the shift cable.
