After 6 months in the Iraqi desert near Baghdad, my son is back home for a well-deserved 2 weeks of R&R. He's with the 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas. :flag:
The trip back took only 2 days and he came through Atlanta this morning. He'll visit with his new wife (married just 3 months before deployment) for a couple days in VA Beach before coming up to see Mom and Dad. Seems he's got his priorities straight. :lovies:
Got tickets for the O's vs. Yankees on 10 Sep. He's looking forward to some cold beer, a couple dogs, and an Oriole win. I can handle the first two. As far as the 3rd, I :dunno:
Anyway, I am glad he's home and safe. We'll try to make this an extra special 2 weeks. :welcome:

I am glad your boy is back home safely, I hope you both have a wonderful 2 weeks and I want to extend my gratitude to you and your son for the sacrifice and service to our country. God Bless your family, Javier.
That's GREAT news!!! And sounds like he's taking the BEST advantage of the R&R, and you've got some excellent plans.
Shake his hand for me...and tell him I'm proud of him and pray for him every morning and all the other men & women over there doing their job.

As a former member of the 1/5th, 2/7th, and 2/5th Cav, (my 1st 8 years in the Army were spent doing the Ft Hood - Korea thing) tell the good Captain thanks for his service, and thanks for taking care of his soldiers for me. They are all in our prayers.
Howdy,
I live adjacent to and work at Fort Hood. Send me a private message with his email address, phone number or some other way to get ahold of him, and I'll say howdy and buy him an adult beverage of his choice if he is in town
I can set him up for a "familiarization" flight around the area too, if he would like it.
Hope he enjoys the short, two-week break.

Blurauder (Charlie),
I forgot something very important.
Pls tell your son "Thank you " for serving in the military and going to Iraq.
After hearing/reading about what happened to the kids/adults in Russia, I hope they now understand what we are trying to do in Iraq.

Mary, I have been working harder than I thought was humanly possible...
The military life is tough nowadays and I am doing the work of several people with only one set of hands. I'm not complaining, but I would probably get more rest if I were in Iraq!
