How many of y'all have crash helmets? What kind (open face, full face)? What brand? Approximate price? Where is a good place to shop for one? Is a motorcycle helmet acceptable?

But the contrasting colors really look nice.

I picked up an AFX X-15R off eBay, a while ago (for about $60). I had wanted Silver (to match the truck), but was sent black, in error. Rather than return it, I just decided to keep it. Now it matches the car (should I ever get it into the 13s)...
Snell M2000 and DOT ratings, cheap and comfortable...

Whatever you do get a Snell 2000 rating.
Most tracks require it now and in the near future simple ratings will be out of date and new ratings will be needed.
Snell 2000 should last a couple more years from what I've heard.
I bought one new for about $160 a year ago.

Yes, just remember that M2000 is generally thought of as a motorcylce helmet and SA2000 is an automotice helmet.

All depends on the sport and how serious you are about competing. When I autocross there is no preference. They have all kinds, openface and full face. If you go into more serious racing, I am pretty sure they will require a full face and the appropriate class of helmet (automotive or motorcycle). There was another thread here that had specifications of each type class.
I have a Sparco full face helmet with a large eyeport. When it's hot I just remove the visor. Not as ventilated as a open face but I have full face protection when I need it.
This is where I got mine :
