Talladega Superspeedway Hosts Fan Appreciation Day To Celebrate 35th Anniversary
Fans wanting to tackle the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway now have a chance to do just that. To celebrate the track's 35th Anniversary, a Fan Appreciation Day has been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12 and as a special thank you to the fans, anyone who has pre-purchased or purchases a ticket to the Oct. 3 EA SPORTS 500 that day will have the opportunity to take their personal vehicle for a lap around the 2.66-mile tri-oval.

If driving your car around NASCAR's Most Competitive Track doesn't get your adrenaline pumping, the Race Driver Rescue, a specially designed and built rapid response racetrack fire truck should. This truck will attempt a Guinness World Record run with Mike Harmon and Red Farmer participating behind the wheel at over 150 mph. This would be the first time this record was held in the United States. "Talladega Superspeedway has some of the greatest and most loyal fans in the NASCAR racing," said Vice-President/General Manager Rick Humphrey. "We felt that hosting this fun-filled day was a fitting way to honor them and to say thank you for their support of Talladega." Special guests on hand to help celebrate the occasion include Donnie Allison and Farmer of the legendary Alabama Gang, NASCAR announcer Eli Gold, Richard Brickhouse (winner of the first event at TSS on Sept 14, 1969) and Alabama native Harmon. These celebrities will be available for autographs throughout the day.

Fans will also have an opportunity to have their picture made in Gatorade Victory Lane with the October EA SPORTSÔ 500 trophy and the #24 Jeff Gordon Pepsi Monte Carlo. There will be a children's area complete with games and activities as well as a Vintage vehicle show (Pre 1980) that will be on display for fans to view.

Fan Appreciation Day will take place in the infield of Talladega Superspeedway from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. and is FREE to the general public.

More details will be released soon, so be sure to check our website www.talladegasuperspeedway.com for timely updates.

I was hesitant to post anything, fraid everyone would dog me for not taking it to the limit.

I wish I could say that:

In Talladega I found the governor
Now the marauder did all she could do
only going 117 did not bother me
I was there how about you

But I am a conformist and stayed in line. We did get to 90mph though. It was really an overwhelming experience going into turn 1 the first time. That bank is steep. Hard to stay in the car with our wonderful seats. Let my 17 yr old son drive 1 lap around, we had 2 tickets. Besides driving dad's prize possesion for only the second time and taking on the high banks made both of us nervous. All I know is that I am still grinning from ear to ear. It all happens so fast, hard to take it all in.

I'll try to get around to posting a few more, having to resize them is a hassle, plus they really don't do justice to what it was like.

Sounds like it was a great day all around and driving the high banks at Talladega is a once in a lifetime experience ... unless you are one of the big 43. No dogging from me !!! :bows:
