Okay Marauder family...I need some help. I need a better/cheaper medical insurance plan for my son. He's 4, visits the doctor about 4-5 times/year, doesn't have any pre-existing conditions, and is a non-smoker (ha-ha!).

Do any of you have any experience with Humana, Unicare, or Fortis?
Good? Bad? Ugly? Things to ask? Things to avoid? Things to look for?

My current premium for him per month is $188, which does not include dental or vision. It's a PPO plan that's basically an 80/20 split with prescription co-pays around $10-20.

I'm looking to lower my monthly premium while maintaining a similar/better plan than what my employer currently provides. Any help is MUCH appreciated!

GOOD LUCK!! Historically group plans that are provided by an employer are cheaper(err) less expensive than individual policies. Unless you go to some kind of HUGE deductable, it will be more expensive. At least that is how it works up here in the mid-west. just my :twocents:

I have Alliance PPO as whole family plan (2 adults & 2 kids) - fixed $20 per doctor visit, $10/$30 co-pay for prescriptions. It is employer provided group plan. My co-payment is $300 per month. Before this I has Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO group plan. No complains at all - very professional and hassle free company. Check their individual plans - they should have some.

Good luck.

I know you asked for help.

But this is a real "can of worms"

Just have to talk to people and read into the plan.
