I've tried searching and all I've found are numerous topics on which leather care product is better. But that's not what I'm after!

I have seat covers in my MM, front and back. Not having owned any cars with leather before, I don't know how often I should be treating the leather so it doesn't crack?

Now that^^^was funny

Here's what I've learned from folks who know....

Treat leather as a living breathing "thing"...like your skin....it needs moisturizer...or it will wrinkle and crack (like Marty).

Use your favorite product (mine is Zaino Spray Leather Cleaner, followed by Zaino Leather In A Bottle) and "slather" the stuff on, preferrably overnight...then wipe working it into the leather.

I've been doing it about once a month, but think I might start doing it every other week when I wash my car and do all my other detail work.

I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner and apply it once every 2-3 months. Since I have been using it, I have never had any issues with cracking or wear on any of my cars with leather seats.

Thank you, fellas. It's been about a month in a half since I treated the seats and covered 'em. So, next time I wash the car I'll take off the covers and see how the seats feeling.

May I ask why you cover your poor seats? Surely not to save 'em for the next owner. They're lovely soft leather and oh, so nice on your behind, not to mention how good they look. I use Lexol and since my 90 Bronco every vehicle has had leather, and in all that time there's never been any indication of wear or cracking.

if its as fast as rob reiner on a cup cake, the seats would be cracked right off the assembly line no?

I'm not a huge fan of leather, to me it's not really any more comfortable than a regular seat. :dunno: If I could have got the car without leather, I wouldn't have hesitated.

Other than that, I cover them just to keep them clean, since I plan on having my MM for a long time. Even if I don't see the clean seats... it's nice to know they are clean underneath! And should the day come something accidently spills or the covers get ripped... it's just the covers and that one time alone will be well worth keeping them covered.

Be sure your seat covers provide for the deployment of the side air bags, which are located in the FRONT SEAT BACKS--could have tragic results if the bags exploded due to restrictions :soap:

Hmm, interesting point. I assumed the side air bags deployed from the... side. As I recall seeing pictures of the Licoln Town Car's side air bags coming from around the tops and sides of the doors.

Those are 'side curtain' airbags. If you look on the side of the seat, there is a little fabric tab that says 'airbag'. That's where the side airbags deploy from.

I try and give it a good pat and scratch between the seats atleast once a week.
