Greetings all,
I'm thinking about buying a used 2003. What is the difference in the 300A and 300B? What quirks can I expect with these models and what should I look for in the candidate I buy? I prefer a stock Marauder rather than one that's been modified. Any help at all is appreciated!

Go to 'search' and type in 300A or 300B, there should be a wealth of information.

The differences are in what the 300B does not have:

Separate clock
Electric-release fuel door
Auto-release parking brake
Full-size spare
Metal grilles on rear speakers

The 300B does have two things 300As did not...traction control, and a heated seat option. Also, some 300Bs at the very beginning of the change-over did get one or more of the above-listed items.

The only real quirk with both models is that you immediately get a goofy grin on your face when you start it up, which lasts the entire time you're driving.

Seriously, look for inner shoulder wear on the front tires and centre wear on the rears. A lot of MMs came through with incorrect alignment, and the cause of the rear tire wear is a subject of debate. Also, look for thin paint and a distinct ticking noise from the driver's-side head area...as opposed to the vague "sewing-machine" sound that most DOHC motors make.

One more thing...be aware that the factory oil pressure gauge is a fake...

Good luck in your search for a Marauder. Some show up here on this site occasionally. As mentioned by others ^^^^, a search on 300A or 300B will provide tons of information. Welcome to the MM.Net !!!!
:welcome:

As far as quirks with the car .... generally there is an ear-to-ear grin that just won't go away. Have not experienced this with any other car !!! :D :2thumbs:

I am also shopping for a marauder. I was looking at the mercury site and browsing dealer inventories. If the window sticker says "job #2" on it does that mean it is a 300b?

Any idea on what a good price is on a brand new one?

thanks

At FOMOCO, Quality is Job #1. I'm not sure what Job #2 is.

Well, I missed a prime '03 and now I'm considering a leftover '04. The dealer has had it for a year so maybe they'll deal on it. Any idea what kind of deals they can make on a year-old leftover 04?

I went to a dealer in NJ that had ten of them sitting there and the best they would do on price was $500 above invoice. There are various rebates, but they were not eager to cut a 'deal'. Its still 2004, so the cars aren't quite leftover yet. I'll stop back in the January snows and they still have 7 of them, I figure they will be more willing to 'deal' then

How long ago was this?.......We just had a member fly up from south florida and buy a new one in NJ for under 26,000 I beleave. So you just need to find the right dealer. No one is paying over sticker for awhile now.
