Ive been reading on a few other boards that future Lightings have been cancelled and that outside vendors have received settlements for their contracts, is this true? Is Ford having a GM moment here? No more reasonable priced supercharged fun for the masses?
Guess Ill enjoy my "4 Door L" the last of the breed?

Ford is having a "Ford" moment.
All they'll have left is their beloved Mustang, just the way they want it.
All of the European and now American car companies are going to pass them up. Or better yet...pull farther away than they already are.
They drop the SHO, the Marauder and now the Lightning.
Geez. Whats next?
Ford has not only dropped the ball....they're letting it roll away...all the time saying...."Whats it going to take to pick that up again...I got it!!! Lets get rid of all of our high performance vehicles!!! Genius!!!!! "

Yep, Ford is having a "Moment"...
Whatever. I think I've already figured out my next vehicle will probably not be from the blue oval... I'll get over it.

a friend, who is looking for one to buy, told me that the reason they where dropping it is because of the new desgin.
they wanted the new L to be faster then the srt-10 which already means alot of poines but the new f-150 body is alot heavier. so they would need even more hp and it makes suspension work hard also. so they said to hell with it.

IMHO, it's a truck, and I don't care.
After 30 years of police cars warming my butt, and winning most of the chases, I'm into fast four door sedans. I got mine...

One moment is all it took to see the NEW 500 is going to be a LOOSER for Us..the enthusiest But, for fod it will probably be OK.........Look at all the discounts, bad press, warrenty costs just one of these enthusiast vehicles.....the MM............I believe ford lost there but on this car & other of its type.......bad business desision to make cars like this on the cheap & for the masses..........
Hence tyhe FORD GT, viper,
these cars cost little more to make than cobras,MM, etc.........the sales price is 3,4,8 times higher....& They are usually garage toys that are babied around............Not beat on & warrentied out the A..
think about it Ford is just trying to become competetive on the whole....it is a jungle out there.... :beatnik:

As an employee of Ford it is getting harder for me to buy my own products. Wait a minute, maybe that's why I have a PT Cruiser. I guess I got the last great Ford product made.

The best excuse Ive heard so far, and the one that makes the most sence to me, all the planned changes, engine, body panels, independent rear susp ect. they were looking at a $50k pickup truck at the low end, thats not where they wanted to be, smart move I guess, wait a few years and a new L will be out, guess I can forget about another supercharged f150 Harley Truck anytime soon huh?

Rumor has it that Triology is/was working on a supercharger for the F-150....this gives JB al the more reason to go ahead with that project...plus it will be better that a factory deal anyway..plus lower insurance...

Sad part is we are all loosers here:mad:
Ford does this by dropping a good selling line like the Lightning and the ripple is felt throught the whole line up. Marauder did not cause that much of a stir because it was never a real "barn burning" from the get go. Lightning was in production for about 11 years. Marauder only two. Big differance. Lightning's were fast where as Marauder need help from day one. Ford really does not have a lot on its plate right? We can only hope that someone comes to their senses.
Only time will tell.

Cancelled... I suspect not. Postponed... More than likely. Look at their history, and a new bodystyle = 2 years R&D to build the SVT version. Add to the fact that the Mustang has just undergone a major overhaul (and an SVT version of that will take priority), and you've got a two - three year wait.
Shelby is coming back to Ford, and I doubt Colletti is willing to let have the Fastest Production Truck title, for long.
Hopefully...

I do not think that will quite cut it?
Lightning is very differant looking from a stock F-150.
After market S/C is the same issue owners have with any make, the lost of factory warranty.

I'm with Mac.....
I was never much of a truck guy and the "Lightning" is nice but not too practical!! My neighbor has one and it is fairly quick and can light up the tires but with about 30% of the weight on the rears wouldn't you expect that??!!
On the other hand the MM is a GREAT car with comfort and well balanced performance.......I think safer but don't really know??
I have about the same $$$'s as a Lightning tied up in my Cobra replica and it ain't very practical and IS very dangerous!!
I would not even consider swapping my Cobra for the neighbor's Lightning.....It's just a truck with some HP.....Not a BLAST to drive or much of a "Head Turner"....IMHO?? :cool4:
I guess it's a Mustang or a "500" for me in the future since the GT is really out of reach. I'll stick with the "Blue Oval" for now!!

Agreed. What will be more interesting is what is planned out of SVT. SVT is not dead!
Ford needs to get off the over-emphasis on trucks. This may be a good sign!

You know you both nice guys but, your off base on this one:mad:
Lightning is more than a "truck", turns more heads than any Marauder every will...Fast right off the floor, no need to spend $$$$$$ to get it to move..........I guess it's a "Big Dog" thing?...Instantaneous recognizable...not "nice cop car" or other remarks that are wispered.....OK carry on now:)

I agree on the Money Part. Drive the lighting right off the floor and have fun. But I dissagree on which turns the most heads. My friend has an 01 Lightning. I drive everyonce in awhile. Power AWSOME!!! But I still get that WTF is that black car. Most can identify a lighting or Cobra. But a MM is like a mystry Car. THat I like. Just 2 cents.

Since I own both they have they'er pros and cons.
If you look at SVT line up since 1993 theres been dead spots on everything
Cobra made from 93 to 99 then only 300 Cobra R's in 2000 and resumed in 2001 and dead again in 2002 and brought back for another 2 years.
Lightning 1st Gen 1993/94/95 then dead and 2nd Gen 1999/04 looks like about 3 year absents but it well be back and a lot cheaper than the Stupid Retarded Truck from Dodge. :flamer:
Contour made from 1995/97 then in mid 1998 SVT brought out they'er version
Focus out in 1999 as a 2000 model then in 2002 SVT brought out they'er version.
And Colletti himself said to Dodge "Oh when your trying to dethrone the LIGHTNING!!! The GT well make your Viper be between an earthworm and a Gartersnake."
So its safe to say the Lightning isn't going out of they'er lineup.

Im an auto enthusiast first, when a good one goes away, a Lightning, a Marauder, an Impala SS, the GM F Bodys ect it seems to me we get one step closer to all driving dull grey Ford 500s or Chevy Malibus, less fun stuff to chose from, I remember the early 80s all too well....not again.
A truck fills my needs, the L was not a good fit for me at 6'4 280, the Harley truck was, plus it DOES stand out. An MM was considered but I need a truck and have a 93 Marquis LS with the performance pkg, and dont I fit good in Mustangs so those are out.
Roush should have their stage III ready by early 05 (supercharged F150s) but I like mine factory.
I know what you guys mean, I have to look at badges or wheels on a lot of Ls, its the Stealth look!

Okey dokey... I've got some experience with both the MM and the Lightning, so I'll weigh in... :mad2: ;)
Yes, the Lightning isn't as practical - I get less than 20mpg highway, and only average about 15mpg, overall. Winter is a joke, without snow tires. I hear the same about the MM, but haven't tried, yet. There's only two seats (I like the fact no one askes for a ride, though)...
The reason the Lightning can smoke the tires at will, is the 400+ ft/lbs to the rear tires (mine stock pulled 360HP/430TQ, and ran the 1/4 in 13.6@102)... They can be made silly fast, pretty easy, too. I've only got $1,500 in performance mods (see sig)...
Now the MM lacks the raw power, but is much more refined. Definitely has WAY more class. When I pull into the parking lot at work (alongside mostly European cars), it more than holds it's own in the looks department.
They both get lots, no question, just from different groups of people. My VP refers to the MM as the "coolmobile" and asks me to drive him, a fair bit. The Lightning attracts gawks from the under-30 crowd.
