On my way to Atlanta on Saturday, a car in front of me on I-20 dropped or kicked up something that hit my windshield, causing a bad pit and star shaped crack. Progressive will have this repaired for free for me on Tuesday, so I figured I'd post before and after shots to see if such a hit really can be acceptably repaired. Other option is to replace the winshield, but I have a deductible that's higher than what the MSRP is for a windshield.
Here's the damage, I'll put up shots of the repair as soon as I can.

Usually, if it's bigger than a quarter they can't repair it.

Now I have sympathy for you, and that crack looks fixable.

That's why I've chosen the "full glass" coverage on my auto insurance policy. It doesn't raise the premium much at all since it's totally seperate from, and independent of the deductable amount for damage to the rest of the car, and yet it does away w/any deductable for glass damage/replacement. So your deductable for glass is zero. You might want to get that in the future. ;)

It was. Progressive paid for Safelite to come out to my workplace and repair the crack. The installer told me that it would not eliminate the crack, but it would bond it together and seal it, so it wouldn't grow. It does look much better, too.
I'll get some photos up tomorrow... got home too late (dark) to snap a picture today,.

I let a chip get out of hand b4 I had time to take the car in and all the glass place confirmed the "size of a quarter" position, The new windshield was under $175 though so not too too bad.

It looks a lot better, but you can still see it. They injected a resin that holds the glass together, and the garuntee is that it won't crack any further (assumng no more debris strikes) or they will replace the windshield free.
The outside is smooth, no pit like before. Here's the comparison outside shots

Looks good Donny.
Did the damage happen in Alabama because I tell you what; the state of Alabama must hire someone to throw debris on the highways because last month I got a puncture in a tire and last weekend some sort of debris was being kicked up by every car in front of me, and then there was a huge chunk of retreaded tire I couldn't miss...bleh. My favorite though was a huge semi dumping mulch on the highway earlier this year.
