Wife says she read that Ford had won a lawsuit concerning rear-enders. Has anyone else seen anything on this-is this old news and I just do not know? Tried to find something on the net but no luck. If this is not true or old news, what is the thread. Thanks, willie

Yes, willie, there was something posted here on this. Ford won their case, the suit was discharged. AIRC, it was filed by a group of officers from Illinois, none of whom suffered any injuries, or, losses, who sued FMC over the crash-fires of the Panther based police cars.

Some (not all) of the issues addressed, included decisions of the court that no automobile mass produced today could sustain impacts of 70+ MPH, and guarantee no serious injury, death, or, fire as a result of the impact. That drunk drivers have more to do with the collisions than FMCs design, engineering, testing and safety record. The court noted that the Panther based patrol cars have the best safety record among all patrol cars, and that other manfacturers crash-fire records are as impressive as Ford's, so, no one does it better, or, worse. In such overwhelmingly violent crashes, no automobile can provide protection with any certainty, or words to that effect.

There's a link to the decision here somewhere...
