So I was looking at my engine the other day, and in particular the flat stainless steel metal cover on my Paul's High Performace airbox, and I got to thinking. What if I got my buddy with the zillion dollar laser engraving system to laser etch a mararder head and the word 'Marauder" directly onto the airbox. It would take a few days for him to work the job into his tight schedule, but since I let his 15 year old son - the one with the learner's permit - drive my car last year, he owes me big time!
When I had the hood open on my TCE Stainless Brake Line install day and mentioned it to Mac, he gave me one of the smiles and nodded, "do it!"
What do you think??
Also, I doubt running the car for a few days without the metal cover would do much harm, but can someone out there in Marauderland reaffirm my belief so I do not worry more than necessary about running around with a naked filter on my car.

Sniff...I smell group project. Ready to handle the special requests, Rick? Talk about a blank canvass for bling...
Yes, go for it. Any don't sweat removing the cover, it's a heat barrier and we're getting into the cooler months now anyway.
BTW y'all...I also drove Rick's MM, and if I didn't have a supercharger in the way, I would look into Paul's kit. It fits well, and in the right places, collecting as much fresh air from behind the headlight pod as the OEM allowed. Sounds very sweet in WOT too.
I'm going to go out on a limb here because I haven't done any testing of my own. But, after seeing and test driving Rick's MM, I suggest that Paul's CAI kit is probably the best of the choices we have today, including the OEM setup. Add to that improved WOT sound and a place to do some custom bling, you can't go wrong.

Great idea Rick. Check on hookin' up other members as well...:P
As far as having the lid off...I race with the lid off and haven't thought of any issues without the cover on. Do it!

ok.... tonight on my way home I stopped in the parking garage and removed the cover. tomorrow I will use Illustrator to create the image to be lasered into it and let everyone see the results when it's done.
I will ask how much he would charge for other people to do it but with shipping (back AND forth) and his labor, the cost is going to add up. But I will ask nontheless.

I had to go against the crowd on this one. WHAT ARE YOU FREAKING N U T S !! Why would you want to engrave it for? Man, do you people have to have a d*mn Godshead on everything? Enough now with the Godshead here and the "Marauder" there B.S!! I am tired of it, first you all spend all day bopping me in the head and think it's fun and now it's hey I have a great idea. Well why don't you just go and get a big Godshead tatoo on you chest, back, head or a$$ I don't care! Just stop it already with this bling bling B.S.!!
You know what if you all want to engrave the d*mn airbox go ahead see if I care, it is usless to me anyway since I can't have one on my car anyway do to the location of the airfilter. So do what you want my opinion doesn't matter anyway. You'll end up doing it anyway, in that case why was this poll started for in thr first place to begin with. You were going to do it whether we agreed or not.

Go for it 'Poke and good luck hope it looks real good when it is done. :D

Hey Poke....be wary of a large heavy rain downpour without the cover on. There is some water seapage into the hood area on occation. I don't believe the water can get through the filter, but it's a thought to consider.

he did a prototype on a scrap piece of scrap - it looked cool! as I type this it is being etched onto the actual airbox cover. He commented that since it's stainless steel - and one of the toughest things to etch - it will make a hell of a noise when the machine is running. He is not using the laser etcher; he is using a computer controlled diamond tipped 'analog' engraving machine. Still very cool looking to see a piece of my car in his office being worked on. Should be ready today.
Also, as long as he's got the thing in his office I might have him engrave "MARAUDER" very large along the top angled edge. He and I agreed that it might look nice. We will see....
