Anybody know if there's an easy way to change the Traction Control switch so that its default is OFF? I'd rather have it switched off until I opt to turn it on than the other way around.

Careful there may be a liability issue with this request. I personally don't know how but if I did,I would advise you that it may help you before you realize you need it.

The question has been asked before and the consensus was that it could not be done. I believe it could be disabled by pcm programming but not too sure.
On my 98 Merc GM I replaced the momentary switch with a 'push on/off' switch that I got from the local Radio Shack. It is now off by default, and has to be turned on when you want it.

Hmmmm. OK, thanks everybody. If there's the possibility of a liability issue, best not to go down that road.
Thanks for the advice.

It can be turned off permanently with a tuner.

That's something to look forward to when I either get a 300b or '04 MM. BTW, I removed the ABS fuse to rid myself of traction control on my '92 GMLSHPP.

Someone here has done this already - changed the switch from default ON to default OFF. IIRC it was a 5-minute thing and his dealer did it for him.
I ain't lookin' it up, but it's here somewhars.

This was also done by the Mustang guys. Can't remember the exact web site, but there was a switch done to replace the switch on the '99 and up Cobra's where the TC was off on start up and could then be switched on when needed. I'll try and look up the site again.....

Dallas Mustang (www.dallasmustang.com) has one for Mustangs.

This one wires into the dash behind the instrument cluster and not to the switch iteself. So, it would be difficult to modify it for an MM. There may be other companies selling ones that wire to the switch directly. I think that would be easier to modify it for an MM.

A tuner can turn off the engine torque reduction for TC, but not the ABS brake application portion of the traction control. The way to set the TC default to OFF is to always have the TC switch connection made. If you changed the TC switch from a Normally Open to a Normally Closed contact, this would resolve it. And you could still turn it on and off. However, you may want to remove the TC bulb in the dash if you do this.
I have my TC disabled as default. Also removed my TC bulb. With a good tires, limited slip and go pedal modulation I don't need it.
Where is it mandated that all cars have Traction Control? Why don't you have stability control or roll control too? Even with all of these, people still crash. Cars just aren't foolproof....
