Spent some time next to one of the new Bentley Continental GTs today on the road in Atlanta. Not bad looking for $200K...same could be said for the attractive female behind the wheel.

You can ponder the specs HERE (http://www.bentleymotors.com/minisites/continentalgt2door/container.jsp?lang=en)

That Bentley looks sweet, but it is one of the few cars that outweigh a Marauder.

So that car has about 80 gross HP more than my Marauder engine makes, and yet, my car does a 0-60 MPH sprint in 4.25 seconds on the street, while that car accomplishes the task in 4.7 seconds. I realize that the 4.56 gears help me out on that, but if twin turbos were all they're cracked-up to be, then I'd think that this car in question having about 80 HP more than my car does would be able to come closer to my 0-60 MPH time than that. And for $200K (is that how much it is?) it should atleast match my time. So it doesn't sound very impressive to me. Especially if that's your typical twin-turbo set-up. I also am mindfull of the fact that 0-60 MPH is NOT the last word in high performance, nor is it the only focus of fast street cars. But if the claims of twin turbo set-ups having no turbo lag were true, then I'd think a car that has twin turbos, and that also grinds out 552 gross HP would lay down some better #'s to 60MPH than that. Sorry for the cynicism.

Bill,

Keep in mind that the stats are for a car in stock form. Put 4:56's in it to equalize things and I suspect that the time difference will go in its favor.

Tires and weight would also factor in. Match those up as well and it would probably go down a bit more in favor of the overpriced car.

Now, as for price.. heh, heh. No explaining needed there, eh? With the extra $160K you could go out and buy yourself a Ford GT and never worry about it again. :)

Bill,

Keep in mind that the stats are for a car in stock form. Put 4:56's in it to equalize things and I suspect that the time difference will go in its favor.Ofcourse this is all heresay on our part, but personaly, I don't think that the 4.56's would account for anything more than a half second in the 0-60 MPH times. But I could be wrong.

Tires and weight would also factor in. Match those up as well and it would probably go down a bit more in favor of the overpriced car. I didn't notice, but how much heavier is this car than our Marauders are? Unless the weight difference is more than a couple hundred pounds, then I cannot see that as being much of a factor. As far as the tires go, I'm sure that this car doesn't have drag radial tires like my car now has, but for $200K I'm sure they don't include some cheap tires on a 556 HP car. I'm sure that they include some nice sticky tires such as Pirelli's. And my 4.25 second 0-60 MPH time wasn't accomplished w/any lower air pressure like I use at the track. Infact I had 28 PSI of pressure in the back tires that day.

Now, as for price.. heh, heh. No explaining needed there, eh? With the extra $160K you could go out and buy yourself a Ford GT and never worry about it again. :)

DanYeah!!! Gimmie the GT any day!!!!!

I've had to do a VIN check on one of these. Very nice looking car inside and out, same for the driver.

The Bentley much heavier than the Marauder, it weighs about 5000lbs. And it is certainly geared differently. The Bentley would easily walk away from you at the top end, it can hit almost 200mph. In any case, I do not see much of a point in comparing the two cars. Twin turbos in a different car serving an entirely different driving style says nothing about the merits of this type of system vs a supercharger.

Much to my surprise, I have seen 2-3 of these Continental GTs on the road already. I have mixed feelings about it, the fact that it is a Volkswagen bothers me and although striking, I am not completly sold on the styling. At around $150K, it is a decent value for what it is. But should I strike it rich, my money would be spent elsewhere.
