View Full Version : Center Hub Cap for tirerack winter package

A couple people have contacted me about the center hubcap I am using on my tirerack snowtire/wheel package. The cap is for a 98-01 CVPI. It fits the center of the wheel perfectly. It does stick out somewhat because the wheel is flat faced, thus the reason a normal hubcap can not be used. It is a acorn style cap. The Ford part# is F87Z-1130-DA. I bought mine from a local dealer for $22.85 a piece. I have found them on the net since for as low as $17.43 plus shipping. The one stickler with these are you need special lug nuts. The lugs have a ring that the cap snaps on to. The local dealer I bought the caps from quoted me $2.75 a piece. You need to use all 5 or the cap could be lost. I don't have a Ford part number for these. I found mine at CarQuest for $1.50 a piece. They are made by Dorman and the part# is 611-171. There is a similiar lugnut that is considerably cheaper, but it is too large for the stud hole on the wheel. The part I quoted fits it perfectly. Beware of ebay for these hubcaps. I was bidding on a set that ended up going for $6 above retail without shipping. One last note. Your car will be mistaken for unmarked PD car with these on. What a difference the Marauder wheels make in the looks of our cars.

-AI'll have to pop one off and measure across the width. It is 6 1/2" OE-OE.

If you check the salvage yards and find any base XL Rangers, they would have the caps and lugs. BTW, Explorers from '95-'01, Sport Tracks from '01 and up will have the lugs. Who knows, maybe one could get them all for pennies on a dollar.
Just my .02 and then some.

RoyL, yep, they are also used on the Ranger.

The center caps would dress it up nicely.

Will these fit the Unique style steel rims?
I'd have to fabricate some godshead badges for those caps . . .
;)

I sent samples to Gary Piper. He said they look like they will fit. He held them up to the wheel but didn't have time to change the lug nuts. He's supposed to mount them over the weekend and let me know Monday. RAY

If its a 6 1/2" diameter cap it will work.

I just wanted to chime in and supply the Ford part number for these lugnuts:
F8AZ-1012-AA
I purchased a set of 20 lugnuts from a vendor on eBay. He consistently has them for sale on there.

Thats roughly what I paid for my setup. Wish you'd have done this sooner, the Merc caps are a lot nicer than the acorns.

Greg Piper tried them on the Tire Rack wheels and they fit fine. I tried them on stock black factory wheels and the fit fine. If they don't fit for any reason or you just don't like them, I will gladly take them back and refund your money with the exception of the shipping charges. RAY :banana2:

Every post I have seen, Ray Sr. keeps refering to the Tirerack.com Winter Tire set. We all (Nov/Dec 2003 buyers) purchased a complete set from DTD (DiscountTire Direct), as you are well aware. I guess we will find out, if it is just a typo, or a different winter set being referred to.
Thanks,
Peter

Sorry, about that, but I just followed others lead. Rayjay started this thread with the title' Center Hub Cap For Tirerack wheels" .

Just to clarify -
We have UNIQUE brand, OEM STYLE wheels. I have asked about that particular brand and style of wheel and have been told they fit. I have asked more than once. I guess I will find out next week when they get here.

Just to clarify again --
The center caps do NOT fit the DTD winter wheels sold in the package. Just tried 'em and they got boxed right back up and shipped back.
Thanks to Ray for trying, but they hit the raised part of the wheel.
Thanks,

I'm confused. Why did they fit on Garagemahals wheels. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14827
Were there differnt wheels sold to you guy??? You were installing them onto the special lug nuts and not expecting them to clip onto the wheel, were you? I don't understand why they fit some and not others. No problem in retuning them for a rufund, I'm just confused. RAY

Probably because he has wheels of a different brand. It isn't due to the lug nuts. It's due to the cap itself being the wrong shape to fit the raised portion of the DTD wheels.

Hey Ray, I dug back into my emails and confirmed that I have the TireRack wheels, not the Discount Tire wheels. It appears that there is a big difference. At least we know they work on the TireRack rims.
