Is $165 for a plastic film or is it the metallic film? My understanding is that the metallic film is the best. Reason I ask is that I have 2 MMs to get done sometime.

The metallic film blocks more of the UV light. We bring all our vehicles to Dr. Tint in Hagerstown and also have the Lifetime Warranty. Will check the price out when I get home this afternoon.
Defyant how dark are you going with the tint?

I am staying legal. FYI, the windows come from ford at about 75% tint. In MD the limit is 35%. They will bring it down to the limit.
Here is where people get into trouble and tint business makes money. You go into the tint place and say "I want legal tint. They say the limit is 35% do you want that? You reply "Yes". They apply 35% to the car and get paid. Their happy and your happy with nice dark windows. But what they fait to tell you is that the windows are already tinted from the factory. You get pulled over and I put the tint meter on your windows and it shows somewhere around 20%. You get all pissed off at me because the tint place screwed you into a repair order (fix it ticket). And guess where you bring it to get the windows fixed? Right back to the guy who put the tint on in the first place. He gets you three times!!!! Once to put tint on, then to remove the illegal tint, then to make it tinted legal.
Be specific when you ask for tinted windows if you want to stay legit. If you want illegal windows, consider this:
We have a guy at work whos pet peve is tinted windows. He'll write the repair order and give a $55.00 ticket. After awile he'll check up on you and if he finds you've satisfied the repair order and then re-tinted the windows below 35% again, off to jail you go!!
For the record, I have better things to do, but hey I have my pet peves too...

Is window tint really necessary? I have been driving Police Interceptors for many years in all kinds of bad weather w/out window tint.
:P Burn back....

I don't know about "necessary" but it sure as hell keeps the interior of your car from imitating a microwave oven when you park that black car in the sun on a 90+ degree day. I shouldn't complain -- I don't even know how to spell "snoe tire." :D

I've got a shop about 2 blocks from me.
Went last week to talk to him about wheels and snows.
I can get a set of Nitto or Toyo snows on a nice set of 17" alloy wheels for about $1400.
They will mount and roadforce balance the tires on the wheels for me,
and swap out the KDWS whenever I am ready, for free.
They would also do a tint job for me at $150, and they can to a
Caliper paint job in almost any color I want for $150 for all 4.
I am almost temped to let them do the tint and calipers just to see their work.
If it comes out really well, then I'll give them my order for the snows,
but I'll have to ask them for a set of either Blizzaks or Pilots.

Why all the fret over "illegal" tinted windows? I'ts a civil traffic infraction, not a crime. Besides its a non-moving violation that does not effect your insurance rates. Most states have statutes that prohibit non OEM exhaust modifications too, but I dont see anyone shi##in' kittens over that!
As far as the window tint goes, if its darker than the legal limit just make sure your windows are rolled down (after being pulled over) when the Officer makes contact at your vehicle, that way the Officer can see your hands. If you get a citation, no big deal, pay it and motor on, its nothing anyone is going to jail for (unless you refuse to sign the citation or dont pay the imposed penalty in a timely manner) You also have the option of contesting the citation too.
