Grand National on TV

On History Channel tonight at 9:00 EST "Full Throttle" will be on the Buick Grand National. If this is the show I think it is some Buick fans may be in tears by the end.

GN...Great car! My college roommate had a 1986 GN (the first year with the intercooler) and NOBODY knew what it was, nor what that bad-boy could do!!! Whenever we drove around in it everyone would say; "Nice Monte Carlo".
I was pi$$ed when he bought it because it would waste my '85 5.0 GT Mustang. I would kill him 'out-of-the-hole' with my 5 speed but once he got boost up he would walk by my Stang like a freight train!!!
I used to bust on him because of the "Jiffy Lube" logos in his headrests....
It is truly amazing that we are both still alive considering some of the crazy stuff we did in those cars!

I'm taping this one for Heather, as she is at work. She's got an 87 TType...basically a GN without the "looks" package. Hers is dark grey metallic with chrome trim. Major sleeper. 11.88 sleeper. Thanks for the post Dan.

I remember some year ago there was this guy that would come to the "Midnight Street Races" with a T-Type Regal. It was a beautiful red color and it was fast. As long as he could torque it up and get the boost up he was unbeatible. He would waste the 5.0 Mustangs. It sounded cool hearing that vacuum running down the quarter mile.

Just watched that program and I can't believe the times at the end of it. They were supposed to have put out 400hp with the mods they made but they only got a 14.35 1/4 mile time. We get that with just a chip and rearend mod. It is still a cool looking car.

I wondered why they picked the 85's to work on. Anything before the 86 was dubbed "Hot Air" because they came without intercoolers in their stock form. I noticed in the episode they added intercoolers to help out. In 86 they used the intercooler as stock equipment, and the car just kept getting better. Launching in Heathers car while holding 18lbs of boost at the line is quite a feeling. Also doing donuts in an empty parking lot is easy as hell. I haven't tried donuts in the Marauder yet!

Yeah, 14.35s with a big Turbo, Intercooler and an open 'Dump Pipe'...??? A bone stock 86 GN would run LOWW 14s easy!
BTW they said that in 85 they added a blacked-out grille....Not true, the 86s still had chrome at the top of the grille, the 87s came with all blacked-out grilles.

My 87 GN with Applied Technology mods (chip, 3" downpipe & biiiiig air filter) was crazy fast. Owned it from 98 to 02. Had 6300 miles when I purchased itfrom Golden Rod Garage in Freeport,ME. Sold it with 20,000 miles on it to a fella from Wareham,MA for $18,500.00

I've always wanted to drop a Syclone/Typhoon 4.3 Turbo in the GN and see what it would do. Montes in 87/88 had the non-turbo version so it wouldn't be totally oddball

Mpearce - That is weird about Heather's TType. I have a friend here in CT that has an 87 TType with GNX wheels and does 11.88 in the 1/4. :cool: He did a couple things to the turbo, exhaust and fixed the converter. The motor is stock. Same car same times. :beer:
