Tonight it got ugly in the Motor City. If you saw the game Pistons against Pacers you saw one of the ugliest fights in NBA history. It started with a hard foul Ron Artest of the Pacers put on the Mighty Ben Wallace. Big Ben pushed Artest by the face and it was on from there. It ended with Ron Artest going into the crowd to beat up a fan that threw beer on him. The game was called with 45 seconds left. It was ugly. More in the news.

Talk about fan participation, that was plain not called for, then to have a player go into the crowd, and he went after the wrong guy. Who would throw a 7 dolar beer like that? Crazy muther's......

Hey! Watcha expect?
Now that the NHL has gone out of business those folks who go to the fights to see if there's gonna be a game, have switched over to the NBA, ....that's all.
Us MM guys should be NHL fans, since we bought cars with hocky sticks on the front AND back.
I had my rear one off the very day it came home with me.:neener:

I've hated the NBA ever since that scum bag Michael Jordan threw the 5th game of the championship series in june of 96 against Seattle just so he could "bring it home in his father's memory" I think professional sports has taken a turn for the worse since the beginning of the 90's and the players of the NBA, NFL,NHL, and American and National leagues prove that. they all walk around thinking they are above the law. If I were the police chief over there I'd throw all the involved players in the can and throw away the key. As for the fans involved, take their pictures and hang them up anywhere a public venue could be hosted so they wouldn't be allowed in. I know you guys are gonna say how can I call Michael Jordan a scum bag...well like I always say if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, well then I guess it is a duck. I worked in a high line dealership in the N.W. Burbs of Chicago back in the mid 90's and the funniest thing that I ever saw was when the owner threw Michael Jordan out of the dealership and told him never to come back. Anywhere Jordan went he thought he was holyer than tho and treated people like dirt that day it was good to see him get a tase of his own medicine. Just my :twocents:

I lost respect for pro sports when the players started making so much money...simply put.
When Kevin Garnet signed his $121M contract several years ago he was making something like $50,000 per game.
Ridiculous.
Haven't watched a whole game of any sport since.

CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Police in Auburn Hills, Michigan, are looking at videotapes of an ugly brawl involving fans and players at a Detroit Pistons-Indiana Pacers game Friday night. The melee forced an early end to the Pacers' 97-82 win.
<TABLE cellSpacing=4 cellPadding=0 width=194 align=right hspace="4"><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle>http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/topstory/sports/artest_ron041119.jpg </TD></TR><TR><TD align=middle>Indiana Pacers forward Ron Artest gets back on the court after going into the stands after fans during a brawl with the Detroit Pistons with just 45.9 seconds left in the game Friday, in Auburn Hills, Mich. The game was called by the officials. (AP/Duane Burleson)
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>Indiana led a seemingly calm game by 15 points with 45 seconds left and then things unravelled. Detroit's Ben Wallace was fouled by Ron Artest and the Pistons centre took exception to what he deemed a hard foul and gave Artest a hard, two-handed push to the face.
After that, the fighting continued by the scorers' table as players came off both benches to continue the pushing and shoving on the court.
"I felt like I was fighting for my life out there," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "I'm sorry the game had to end this way."
The incident escalated when fans began throwing cups filled with liquid and ice at the Artest, who was surprisingly staying out of harm's way, on top of the scorers' table.
Artest, known as one of the NBA's top agitators, was hit in the head with a flying cup and immediately raced into the stands where he started punching a fan.
Eventually the teams and fans were separated and referees called the game. As the Pacers made their way to the locker room, fans threw a chair, beer, ice and popcorn at them.
About three hours after the shocking finish, Auburn Hills police collected tapes from several media outlets and said they would examine the footage for evidence.
Officers also interviewed witnesses at the arena in suburban Detroit, and planned to talk to the players involved, including Artest and Stephen Jackson, who also jumped into the stands after being provoked by fans.
No arrests have been made yet, but suspensions and fines are expected.
"The NBA is withholding comment until it can review the incident," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said.

I think this speaks volumes for the "NEW" generations of athletes of today. And in my own opinion the overall attitude of kids today. Its a "ME" attitude. Whatever they can do to bring attention to themselves. I have never had any real respect for the NBA. To me it should be renamed "NBASBL" National Basketball Show Boat League".
And when I see an athlete who for example has a 5 yr contact at 1.5 mill per hold out beacuse he wants 2 mill per year.......GOD I wish I had that problem.
But sadly this is going to continue. Unless the leagues of all sports take a hard stand. Players invloved should be at a minumum be suspended for the rest of the year with NO Pay. A 15-20 game suspention with pay is just a time out!! We need a knock out. I am not sure what to do with the fans.
One last point. It is so sad to see this being debated over and over. Joe POP (Mr Paterno) needs to resign because he has passed the game by. To me one of the GREATEST coaches of all time being asked to retire because the game has passed him by. :bs: We need more like him than spoiled brats!!!!

Lets start off by leaving money out of it. Just because pro athletes make money dont mean they are to be treated any kind of way by fans. If this was a game in the neighborhood park with the same players and fans I bet it would have been very different. First off Wallace and Artest would have settled it after Ben pushed him. Next i bet those same fans wouldnt have never threw anything at artest due to the fact they would have gotten thier asses handed to them much worse than what happen on TV.
This isnt the times when Jackie Robinson played. Fans have threw beer on Artest 3 other times before this. But the media never show how he was a gentleman and looked over it. Plus look at security? I didnt see any of them try to go in the stands and stop the fight or secure the fans.
Since Artest is out for the season the fans who started it should be banned the rest of the season also.

Artest, O'Neal and Jackson – who all threw punches at spectators in the stands or on the court at the end of the nationally televised Pacers-Pistons game – were contacted by Don King Saturday night, when Indiana hosted Orlando. Due to the suspensions, the Pacers likely will have to put retired boxers in uniform in order to meet the league's rule of dressing at least eight players, Don King production spokesman Marc Stein reports. Pistons spokesman Tom Wilson said the team plans to use "Mike Tyson's Security Company" starting with Sunday's game, doubling the number of armed police and increasing other arena security personnel by about 25 percent.

There needs to be some time in the slammer for this kind of activity. If it happened at a local bar, there would be arrests. Reminds me of the Rick Fox/Doug Christie fight a few years back. Way out of line and little repercussion from law enforcement, the teams or the NBA. Just a bunch of self important jocks who can't control themselves and simply be glad they make a ton of money for playing sports well. Fortunately they are not all that way but sure is taking a turn for the worse.

If Artest could restrain himself from going after Big Ben,he could have restrained himself from going after that little guy in the stands.
I wonder if he's happy, now that he got what he wanted... Last week, he was suspended by the Pacers for two games, when he asked if he could leave for a month, as he was very tired, from his recording and promoting his new rap album... Got all the time in the world, now, huh?:flamer:
I'm surprised that Artest got the season, and Jermaine only got 30 games... He took some pretty heavy swings, at the crowd member...

Ok so i guess if you guys was at MMIII and just got finished showing the MM and a fan threw beer on you for the third time you would just walk off and forget about it. Some on this forum will.......more power to them. But i know for a fact that many in here would do the same thing Artest done. Then the crowd would say his car is too nice and modded up for him to do what he did. Or comments like that guy has a supercharger on his MM and it produces alot of horsepower. Lets ban him for the entire season from doing mods to his MM.
LOL
Anyway I think it is a difference when NFL, and NBA players fight. Look at NASCAR those guys fight all the time. The biggest fine I ever seen was $25,000 slap on jimmy Spencer. And the other times the drivers said they didnt get their money worth of hits. It dont matter or not who a person hit they did it and they are in a sport so they should be fined like all others.
Artest cant rap, all that is is just noise. Everybody wants to be a hip hop artist and lie to the public about having all the pretty women, the bilng, drinking all the good wine.................well in his case his NBA salary lets him do that. But being a rapper no, plus his heart isnt in it. He wanted time off anyway. Well you have all the time off you need to promote that corny ass CD that might only sell 30 copies. Him getting into a fight could be a publicity stunt to sell more CD's.
but on the real we all know just like Artest knew that Ben Wallace would have handed his ass to him on a platter!

More like, served him up like a Thanksgiving Turkey sandwich with NBA sauce.

Below comment is from a letter sent to the NY Post:
"I was watching the Pistons-Pacers game, and a hip-hop awards show broke out"
I've always been an NBA fan, but the NBA has gone downhill. Players deserve a substantial salary because their careers are short when compared to the regular working class.
But, not these ridiculous dollars. No athlete should be paid the kind of money that they are paid. Let's face it, it's you and I that are really paying them.
Sprewell turns down 7 million a year because "hey, I've got to feed my family"? How big is his family?.
I listened to a small part of Artest's TV show appearance, and the guy can't put together two sentences?
Jayson Williams, who was one of the more community minded sports figures, of the NJ NETS plays around showing off a gun and kills an innocent driver?
Yes, the fans were wrong to throw cups and chairs at the players, but that's the mentality we've produced as a society. (Seen any Road Rage lately?) You must win at any cost and damn the consequences. While walking, we'll let someone quickly walk by and in front of us without giving it a second thought, but if someone in a car does the same thing? Whoa!!
I'm not just beating up on the sports field; the new royalty in this country, the corporate CEOs/CFOs and their handpicked board members are just as sickening.
A senior exec from Disney gets fired and leaves with 140 million dollar buyout?
I work for a large firm (over 8,000 employees) who, last year around salary increase time, was singing the blues about the money they have to pay for medical benefits, and the head of the stock exchange walked away with a much larger figure? One single individual?
I'm not contemplating a move to Canada, but we're going off on the wrong track. The NBA brawl was just a symptom.

Alcohol should NOT be served to spectators at ANY sporting event. I have a right to expect that when I take my family to any public venue they are not exposed to the borish behavior of a bunch of drunks. Here's the rule at Beaver Stadium (Penn State) NO ALCOHOL. PERIOD! None sold nor allowed to be brought in. If you leave the stadium you may not return. All carry in stuff is inspected, as are the spectators. If you're drunk, you don't enter. There are security people at every section and at the slightest hint of disturbance, the participants are ejected. We pack the place with 117,000 crazies, we yell and cheer, and hoot & holler, but we don't fight, and we don't throw things. Y'know why? It's because it's not tolerated, and we're not drunk. :twocents:
