My cousin told me that in 1961 he moved to France with his 1960 Corvette. He had added some racing parts to the Corvette and wanted to run it at the track.

In order to run at the track you had to join an auto club which he did. He took it to the track which had a banked turn then a 180 and a series of s turns. He came off the bank hot and had to stand on the brakes, down shifting all the way into 1st to make the 180.

After this run an excited Frenchmen approached him who was a licensed racer and asked my cousin to go to the 1961 LeMans the following week in the Corvette. My cousin went with this auto enthusiast. The traffic was bumper to bumper. The Frenchman said go around. Every time the police stopped them he would show his racing license.

They got into the pit area by putting their cameras around their necks. Champagne was 5 Francs, but since they did not have a pass they may not have been let back in after buying Champagne so they would borrow someones pass.

He saw Phil Hill.

One of the guest at Turkey Day had just bought a 1965 Mustang Coupe with a 351, headers, Holley, Idlebrock RPM Manifold, 12 bolt rear end, disk brakes, reinforced frame,Auto and painted a pristine black. He trailered it back from Alabama the day before.

He took me for a ride and then gave me the keys! The engine only had 300 miles so I didn't floor it but with slicks an easy 12 second car! :banana2:

I never anticipated Turkey Day would be an Auto Enthusiast Day. :P

Sounds like it was a fun car to drive, uh? BTW, a 12 bolt rear end? I bet that the Ford purists will cringe when they read that story of yours about a Ford vehicle having a General Motors rear end in it.

With the exception of the hood scoop the car appeared totally stock, rite down to the bias ply tires.

The guy who built it had a warehouse of 30 cars. He set this one up right.

The guy only paid 15K for it, I think he got a bargain.

I didn't think that any Fords ever came w/12 bolt rear ends. I thought that was only general Motors cars that did.

The car is not stock, but highly modified, they didn't have a 351 in 1965. The car is a sleeper, it just looks stock.

I'm an old Chevy guy, so the older Ford cars I'm not as familiar with. However, weren't there some 65 Mustangs that came with the 351 engines? (perhaps the "Shelby" Mustangs?)

Wait a minute, I just saw something in the book I have. it appears that in 65 the only V8 options were a 289 and a 390 engine. And it looks like the 351 engine wasn't available until 69. Correct me if that isn't true.

I think the 351 did not come out until 1969 or 1970. The first Shelby's were 289.

Yep, I believe you're right.

351W in '69, 351C in '70. Probably a Windsor, they'll fit with special headers. Fitting the Cleveland in '65-'66 'stangs usually requires shock tower surgery.

There were five "65" Mustangs not counting Shelby GT-350's and "R" models, which had 289 4V 271HP "K" engines. There was an early '65 (64 1/2) Coupe or Conv. with engine choices 170 cu in 6, a 260 2V, a 289 4V 225 HP "D" engine (unique to 64 1/2 only), and a 289 271 HP (HI PO) "K" engine. later 65's had Coupe, Conv, and Fastback ~Mar. '65 (dates are in dispute) Engines for these were the 170 cu in 6, 289 2V "C" engine, 289 4V 225HP "A" engine, and the 289 4V 271HP "K" engine. You could get any engine in any car with automatic or 4 sp.

Those, my friends, were the days! :)
