I have been regularly reading posts
for over a year now and I still don't know
if anyone came up with a working solution
to a hood scoop/cowl that actually adds
cold air into the engine compartment...

This has got to be good for major torque
and horsepower if it is done right. Of course
the scoop has to look right, wide enough and
not too tall...

If I had the nerve to cut a hole in the hood,
I could probably modify the air filter housing
and add a gasket that would fit into the hood
as it closes down on the engine...this would
suck major cold air especially once you get moving...

Hope my idea doesn't suck major cold air...

You could experiment on on old police or taxi hood. If it works out, you could paint it and install it.

Ok, take your idea for the hood, and use an '03 or '04 Mach 1 shaker assembly.:thinker:

I put a Torino shaker on my '85 Merc Capri GS, the lid fit perfectly on the stock air cleaner. I had to offset the scoop by 1" on the flapper lid as the engine was offset by that much. Painted it argent, same as the trim, everyone thought it was stock. Wish I had a pic of that car....

I saw some dingleberry wreck his new Mach 1 last Sat in the mall parking lot! He was goosing it in the rain and hit a tall curb and bounced between 2 trees. Shoulda asked him about parts! I notice that those cars have a super tall hood to clear all that plastic plumbing for the scoop, there might be a clearance issue.

Awhile ago there was someone here who posted pics of a Marauder hood with a scoop that was being offered by some company, but it wasn't cheap. The hood looked good, but it was $2,500. Not exactly what I would call a good bang for the buck performance wise, but they did do a nice job.

It's surprising that noone has come up with this mod yet other than the shop Billy is refering to.

It's surprising that noone has come up with this mod yet other than the shop Billy is refering to.I've never fabricated a hoodscoop myself, so this is just a guess on my part, but maybe it just takes too many man hours for anyone to make it a cost effective modification for us. especially when you consider the fact that it's only going to offer about the same HP increase as a good chip will which as we all know is about $300. Ofcourse some people might want a hoodscoop also for the looks, but I doubt that there will be Marauder owners lining up to spend $2k or more for that.

This would have to be done if you wanted the bling, not for just the cold air. Much more of that at the bottom of the bumper cover in the four slots. I'm thinking of doing just that myself.

Now if I wanted to do something with the hood it would have to be along the lines of exhausting the air out with some venturi effect ports or louvers.

Nix the louvers, something like the GT40 port. Get that hot air (and pressure) out!

The vision that pops into my head is a NACA duct like the SVO 2.3 turbo Mustang. Low on the hood near the left hood edge- seal the box flip it over so the engine draws from the bottom half and seal the top to the scoop. Of course, this is just in my head- most stuff is.
