I grew up driving Mazda RX-7's. It wasn't my intention to be a ricer, it just happened that grandpa gave me my first car....and that's what it was.
I alway liked the looks of the gen-2's and was impressed that one set a land speed record back in the day.
This one did not.:(

Wasn't that the infamous Csaba Csere situation from about 5-6 years ago (maybe more) when he was attempting a top speed run and lost the car? I think he discussed it in a column shortly after (I don't remember the details, but I am willing to bet it was not his fault, of course). This was a while before he assumed editorship of C&D.
Import or domestic, just goes to show those C&D boys just can't drive! ;)
(seriously, though - a large number of testers from other magazines have been guilty of sheetmetal modifications on test cars along the years, you just don't hear about them - except in other magazines! ;) )

Sorry, I might be misleading... I think he flipped an F-body instead. Still, a flip is a flip.

Fly through the air with the greastest of ease. But this was no act at the circus. :help:

WOE!!!!!! I'm thinking that this occured on the salt flats, right? perhaps that's the only reason why there wasn't a bunch of sparks flying off the roof of the car while it was upsidedown. It looked like as soon as he got the car sideways, the massive rush of air just got right underneth the car and took it away!!! I wonder what kind of speed he was moving at.

Aprox. 210 MPH. :eek:WOW....that's no joke!! I guess that car wasn't properly prepared to be moving at those kind of speeds. I know that the Ford engineers spent a lot of time designing special air ducting on the Ford GT's underbelly to prevent the front end from lifting up at high speeds. And with a top speed of about 200 MPH, the car obviously needed that. That is a cool vid though. Hopefully the guy is still alive and healthy.

I think he would just be happy with the "alive" part. :D
