Hey, just wondering if anyone is running 20% window tint all the way around and has pictures of it. If so, just let me know who you are and I will check out your gallery if they are in there.
Or better yet, how about anyone with tinted windows responding to this post with a response of:
1) Which windows you have tinted: all, rears only, windshield too?
2) What percentage is the tint and on which windows (lighter in front darker in rear)?
3) What kind of tint did you have installed?
4) Do you have pictures in you gallery (if so, I will check out pictures there)?
Thanks for your time.

I used 28 % tint. Not too dark .

Thanks for the responses so far. Just wondering what would look good so that it is not too dark at night, but still dark enough to be worth while during the day.
I would like to see some Silver MMs with tinted windows too. While I absolutely love black and think it is a bad A** looking car that way, it will be a daily driver and Silver seems to hide things better.
I know the 5% I had all the way around with 35% on the windshiled is NOT what I will do with my next car. I have had a couple before with 20%, but that was quite awhile ago and I don't quite remember what it was like...

Yes, I know that feeling!!! And what sucked with my last Camaro that was setup that way is that it had manual windows. Tough to get them both rolled down if you see a cop.
I love the blacked out look of 5% tint, just not sure I would go that dark again. Especially with the amount of night time driving I do right now. I know I will never tint the front windshield on a daily driver again!! Although, that much tinting was sure nice due to the fact my eyes are pretty light sensitive.
Nice car by the way.

I've got 20% tint on my Vic. Every window was tinted except for the windshield.

Florida has a tint law. Nothing on the windshield except a strip at the top, no more than 35% on the front windows and no more than 20% on the rest. It went into effect in the early 90s I think, so if you had an earlier model you could get by with that 5% limo tint, they had to prove you put it on after the law.
I have 35% on everything except the windshield. They've got to be even.
I used to have an 85 LTD with limo black on everything except the windshield, dangerous to drive at night but I was young then... :o
I can understand the law now and recommend 35% on the front windows for good night visibility.

Well, I think Iowa has to have one of the worst tint laws in the US. It is currently at 75% on passenger and driver front side windws - yes, it has to let 75% of the light through. All other rear ones can be as dark as you want. I think this is hogwash. I understand the concern for LEOs with dark tint, but 75% is like no tint. And even in my cars that had 75%, I would always roll the window down and have both hands on the steering wheel in sight and if I had a passenger advised them to keep there hands where they could be seen and don't make sudden moves.
There are some of us that actually get windows tinted for reason other than just looks - keep prying eyes from seeing in, help keep the interior protected from the sun, help with light sensitive eyes, and so I can pick my nose without others seeing me.
At night, I think 20% is about right and it is better than 35% during the day. And I will probably never do 5% again on any windows

I should have specified that by clicking on any of those photo albums would show the tint, in various lighting. I had the windows tinted about one month after purchasing the vehicle. Therefore, the majority of the pics include the tinted windows.

The 20% tint level is a good balance between being not too light and not too dark. My friend had 15% tint applied to his Vic and if I were to do it again, I would at least go with the 15% on the back.

Very nice! Thanks for the follow-up Embassy. That tint looks awesome! The pic in the parking garage, (and TripleTransAm's too as well) just looks sinister like a gangster car. :) I'm afraid if I had that in Grand Rapids the local PD would think I'm a drug dealer! I think it looks incredible though. :)

Thanks again for the compliments.
With the 20% tint, you can still see occupants inside my Vic. Only in blinding, direct sunlight is it difficult to see through the tint.
I doubt your local police would give you any grief over 20% tint.

TTA,
Thanks for the reply. That looks great in low light. It would only be in the direct sunlight, middle of day kind of situations it would be easy to see in. Looks like low light and nights would be about perfect.

Check out my gallery for more pics.
Can't remember the kind of tint. However, all windows were $180.00 -> lifetime guarantee.

:coolman: Bought my car in Oklahoma and then had to register it here in Texas. Went to inspection and found out I had 17% on all four doors and the rear. Texas law requires at least 20%. Had to have the two front windows re-done, and went with Llumar and they are now 38%. Personally I liked the other tint better and can tell the difference. However, with the dark back windows it makes the front just look darker. No pictures yet..

There are times I ask myself that. Pictures like that really make me miss it. I guess I was getting impatient and tired of putting money in to little things instead of the bigger plans I had. By the way, that is a Maaco paint job that the previous owner had done and took a LOT OF WORK to keep clean. And looks much better in pictures and at 15 feet than way up close.
I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle and at the time the technology was still pretty basic for the TPI motors. But now, there are 3rd Gen cars running around with the LS1 motor in them. I would have loved to have a LS1 with twin turbo setup and T-56 6 speed. I love the late 3rd Gen body style, but got impatient.
I have pictures of the car from the guy that bought it and he has done some good things to it, but he took the rear wing off and put the IROC 3-piece rear spoiler on and IROC wheels on it. Other than that, he has done some tasteful upgrades.

Since we are a bit off topic, I thought Eric might enjoy seeing some pics of my other toy. Click here. (http://www.superford.org/registry/vehicles/detail.php?id=588&s=17637#content)
The previous owner tinted the windows. My guess is that the tint level is 10% or darker.

Nice IROC. Sorry for getting off post.
On the black '91, the previous owner had some of the worst window tint I had ever seen. I got both side windows cleaned and most of the back, but messed up the rear window defroster in the process. So, it never worked for me after that. Kind of why I have been afraid to strip the tint off the Accord and have it re-done.

Interesting point. I guess that reinforces why I've always been reluctant to tint my F-bodies, I wouldn't want to do anything to ruin their originality ('cept for the hack job on my WS6's exhaust system... but it was worth it, and I wouldn't see anyone wanting to go back to the single-outletted original condition unless they needed some serious :help: ). The MM, though... well, in my opinion it was meant to come out of the factory equipped with a 20% tint (along with a supercharger and better tranny, but that's another story...).
Embassy (can I call you Em for short?): awesome IROC. I was never into the flashy colors when it came to pony cars, so in 1993 when I was "looking" (semi-seriously) for a sporty car, I was hoping to come across a clean IROC in that color (or black/gold) or a Firebird/ TA in a similar restrained color. Ended up in my all-black GTA instead, but the love affair continues nonetheless (and I *love* those TPI motors).

TTA,
Since we are now off subject, thought I would show you 2 of my other F-Bodies that I have had and miss - especially the '79 Trans Am WS6 car. And the '86 Z28 I miss for everything except the vinyl/leather interior. Bought that car in '94 with only 30,000 miles on it. It was cherry with the 5.0 HO motor in it. There is a picture of the interior and motor of the '86 in my gallery, too. The Trans Am had the Olds 403, but still ran and handled quite well. I would love to find another '79 Trans Am WS6, do a little Hotchkis suspension update on it and drive the heck out of it. (on a side note - I have done the Vette Brakes transverse leaf front suspension conversion on a 2nd Gen F-Body if you ever want input...)

You bastard...
edit: what happened to your wheels on the '79? The WS6 wheels were supposed to be wider with a polished lip taking up the extra width... the ones on that photo are the base 15x7s not the 15x8s. (WS6 cars would have had disc brakes all around, as well, I think - when there was a shortage of rear discs due to popularity of the option, they released a short-lived WS7 which was the good suspension without the rear discs).

Don't know what to tell you on the wheels. Those were the ones on the car when I purchased it. And the car did have 4-wheel disc brakes. Again, Olds 406, automatic (obviously), 4-wheels discs, t-tops (that did leak, of course), cold A/C, and power windows and locks. Only problem I ever had with the car was when a fuseable link went. Didn't even know what that was at the time.
