Well after several years of self debate and nagging from the wife (yes she pushed very hard for her man to get himself a suicycle) I went out and bought a 2005 Road King FF special edition. Took me a couple of miles to get used to the weight and clutch but man is it fun (only got cut off twice Saturday night and stppoed counting on Sunday).

Anyway I was wondering how many other bike owners we have here by brand and style. I am looking for some guys to go colide with so please mention if you are within say 100 miles of Houston.

I have a collection of vintage Triumphs and buy and sell them as a hobby. Restorations are always fun. I also have the first new Triumph sold in the Chicago area back in 1996.

Funny story about people who are RUBS. Rich Urban Bikers. One of them that I worked with bought an HD and the necessary leather jacket. He came over and borrowed by belt sander to make the jacket look used.

Another RUB answered an ad I had in the Chicago Tribune for a 1970 Triumph desert bike. I carefully explained that these are vintage British motorcycles and don't have an electric starter. When he got to the house to test ride the bike, first, he couldn't find the starter button and didn't like the idea of no electric leg, and second couldn't understand that the gear shift was on the opposite side.

Vintage Bikes separate the RUBS from a real motorcyclist.

PS>>It is rumored that a British motorcycle can make a mechanic out of anyone.

Thats funny hadn't heard that one. In my case its more like MCUBS (Middle Class Urban Bikers).

My wife had a truck load of Harley gear from a previous relationship but I am preety much screwed gonna have to fork out some money for the leather jacket...never gonne see me in chaps though :coolman:

I dont mind being new to the scene already met some nice folks and am planning on attending the next Houston Area 1 HOGS meeting.

My niece just bought her husband an HD Soft Tail Deuce, 1450 cc as a Christmas surprise. It'll be in the backyard when he takes the kids wrapping paper out to the trash. How's that for a surprise? :D

The Local HD dealer in Houston is actually delivering them on Christmas day. I was talking to the sales manager and he said at least fifteen wives had come in and bought their husbands new bikes.

Last night I pulled up to a light and this huge a-typical biker dude pulls up on his Harley (in other words one of those guys that scares the crap outta ya) and he gets all excited to see a brand new HD on the road I pulled over and started talking to him. Next thing we know This huge black guy shows up on his bike and we all start talking.....got me thinking its like being in a Marauder when another shows gotta stop and talk.

Not many machines can bring people from different backgrounds, education levels, and outlooks on life together. I feel proud to co-own (along with the bank) to such machines.

Congrats on the purchase....and keep that sucker securely chained wherever you leave it!

My neighbor recently had his 100th aniversary HD lifted in public, in front of a major hotel in Toronto, amidst a dozen other bikes, by a group with a tow truck....and no one saw a thing*. :shake:

He was insured....but it doesn't come close to replacement value, nor the bike note payoff.

*Aside from the fuzzy security cameras that yielded NO help at all.

Enjoy the ride!!!!

I just recently got rid of my 2001 Triumph Sprint ST that the wife and I absolutely loved and made a number of road trips on. Yet was plenty fun enough for some spirited riding on the back roads.

My next bike will be one of the following:

Triumph Speed Triple
Triumph Rocket III
Triumph Daytona 955i
'05 Triumph Sprint ST

Actually, my idea garage would have one each of those. Plus, the wife wants a V-Rod for herself.

Back when I was looking for a toy, I looked at the Harley V-rod. Nice bike, but the Cobra won out. Someday maybe....
