What would be wrong with runnin Drag slicks on Steel wheel vic rims, like a 16 inch?
It just seems like a logical choice for those trying to run drag slics cheaply???
Thoughts? Ideas? Critizisums?

Hey Dennis,

I think they (steel wheels) would be narrow for a good wide slick.

Not sure about the specifics of the 16 x 8" rim....it does stick out a bit. Enough to throw rubber onto my back window and decklid!!! THAT'S a first. :baaa:

The M/T'S are 28 x 11.50 16 ET Streets, and stick like no tomorrow!:cool:Do a SEARCH using the words 'MICKEY THOMPSON' and you will see several threads regarding wheel applications.

HERE (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12793&highlight=mickey+thompson) is my original thread discussion.

Lots of places widen steel wheels, fairly cheap...and yes 15 or 16 will give you more sidewall height, which allows for more wrinkle and this will help with increasing the contact footprint of the tire, which increases traction...and if wanted can go with less diameter and lower the gear ratio...OBTW...at the 2003 SSHS out there was a guy from Florida running fairly narrow slicks, maybe 10" or so, and hooked better than anyone, I mean he jumped off the line like a frog and ran a 10.38...and he had 15 or 16s with a lot of wrinkle...willie

The Jan/Feb Summit catalogue doesnt list the 28 x 11.50 16's but the 26 X11.5 16's run about $185 per tire on page 221. :)

No luck on steel wheels. best check with your local tire shop.

BG...it was a LincVII...like I said, there are wheel/tire places that put 1 or 2 inch bands in steel wheels...in Hickory, NC it is about $28 per wheel...running our 18" wheels with just about any tire is not going to work as well as a wrinkle slick...hard to wrinkle a 18" within our wheelwells...willie
look here for ready made 10" wheels www.custombuiltsteelwheels.com/ws214.htm
