This here is extremely amusing.

Seller is "Marauder_lss"

Description:

Like the new Marauder? Me too, but did not want to spend the money. So I created a look alike from Grandpa's car. Here is a nice 1997 Grand Marquis LS with a little extra.

I e-mailed the seller and told him it's not a Marauder, but more like a nice-ish crown vic.

You know what? I would not be totally embarassed to be seen in that car. It's not bad, given what he started with.

Of course, it would be the beater and the MM would stay in for the winter if I had this one . . ..

-A

EDIT: I should probably add that 1) yes he is quite mistaken calling it a replica, but also 2) He'll probably find someone (not on ebay) who will buy it thinking he just bought a MM

Very "Marauder-ish," I feel complimented.

OK not a MM but not bad. Just asking a bit much! But yes, would make a good dailey driver and rest MM.

Hey you can't blame him for trying with some of the junk they are selling on Ebay.

Can't blame the guy for trying to make the most out of what he could afford. Not a bad job with Grandpa's old car.

I agree. It would make a great spare ride. I've driven worse.

I know I am going out on a limb here but I bet he was thrilled to hear from you. Did you mention that you drive a pimpin' mini van?

Nice looking ride if you ask me ... if he'd lower his price I'm sure he'd get some action.

The front & back of the 95-97 GM is by far my fav of all the 92+ GM's. Way improved interior layout I always thought as well.

Only major gripe I have is ... how far the taillamps extend around & into the 1/4 panel. And that is just a minor quirk/opinion ... not a deal breaker by any means.

If a factory moonroof had been available on a 95-97 HPP optioned GM ...

I might not own a 97 Town Car.

Then again I must admit deep down ...

The availability of more candy(options/toys etc etc) & "status" of a Town Car always gave me more of a thrill than that of a GM.

You know I hate to give into this but it makes you wonder what a Marauder could have looked like had Mercury thought about doing one on the ’98 and older panther platform. Smoke the head lamps and tails, plus some sort of an 18” rim on that thing???? Not bad I think.

I don't think it looks bad either. For the right price, it would make a nice winter beater.

I wouldn't exactly call it "fraud", James...the guy isn't claiming it IS a Marauder...

And it does look nicely done...I wouldn't be embarrassed to ride around in it...

That is a very nice Crown Vic. But what's with the Mercury grille? yuck.

Definitely not a Marauder though.

Why all the hostility?

It is a nice looking Merc. No gawdy stripes or graphics, and it looks clean inside and out. Everything is tastefully done.

Keep in mind not everyone can afford or wants a new or slightly used Marauder.

Had the seller said it was every bit a nice as a Marauder or very similar in HP and performance, I could understand the outrage.

Some people should really tone down the arrogance.

I own and drive a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis LS with Handling Package
daily....this car was the precursor to the Marauder we all
know and love. If fact the Handling Package with dual
exhaust, heavy duty suspension, 16" performance tires,
even includes a "power steering cooler" and a 20 gallon
gas tank to boot!

Gotta Love It! :P
