My guess, you order and find out "oops! wrong price"

I typed in "63-1111" in the part number search, and this is what I got. Also, adding it to the checkout basket, it's still $101.

Everybody else is selling it for $285.

I wish I had ordered it last night when I found it. I believe those of us who ordered it before they discovered it was way underpriced will be enjoying the lower price and getting bargain. By the time I called to order it, they had been getting a lot of calls, knew it was posted online, and the price was adjusted back to something more realistic.

I ordered one anyway, because it was still lower than anyone else: $259.00

But the way the guy kept asking if I had called earlier or ordered online and how he would need to be sure it could be sold for the online price..... makes me think they will honor that price for those of you who did get an order in, or called in an order before the jig was up.

Ya snooze, ya looze

The first link was for an '87 Mustang GT. Just do a search for the Marauder, it still comes up $91.99 plus S/H. This was at 11 pm on 1-10-05. Ordered mine at 3:30.:)

In spite of talking to them on the phone today, their web site still shows an impossibly low price, then shows another price which may not be impossible, but is still so low it may not be real.

The link Barry has still sends you this:

If you follow my link, you get this. the "for GT only" makes me believe they meant this for a Mustang, but it clearly says Marauder both on the left and on the top of the the page.

I think those of you who ordered online will, indeed, get the intake at that price. Even those that ordered by phone will, up to the point they became aware of the error. When I called, the guy asked me if I had called earlier and that he would have to check to see if he could sell it at that price. I'm guessing that they will honor the price shown on the net if you ordered it when it was posted as such.

Keep us informed. If true, you guys got a heck of a bargain!

Well I missed the $91 'special', but I did buy the 63-1111 off a member out in CA who bought it and decided not to install it. I got it for considerably less than the MSRP, still more than the JLT or PHP. But I have the good feelign of helping out a fellow MMer

My impression, well engineered kit, instructions were a bit fuzzy and very small print. Must be getting old, can't read that 6pt font anymore....

Anyhow, took about 45 minutes for R&R as I was not speeding, then there was the search for the bolt that I thought was missing but wasn't.

Fired it up, first impression, is... dammmmmn. What hits you is the massive wooosh of air, sounds like you could vacuum up small kids and dogs with this thing! As for overall sound volume, I really didnt notice a hug difference, especially with the hood down. Did not get a chance to test drive as I was being nagged enough about being late to dinner, blah balh, "CANT HEAR YOU!! TUNING THE CAAAR!!" "JUSTA MINUTE!!!" whuuunga whuuunga, whuuunga... :burn:

My advice? Get the K&N if you like it, you wont be disappointed. If cost is an issue, the PHP with the heat shield is certainly a nice option, I saw it at the picnic and liked the basics of it.

Donny Carlson
01-19-2005, 10:55 PM
Well, I ordered the K&N and then got an email that offered an additional 5% discount, dropping the real price to $248. Of course, they charged my Amex immediatlely, and I just paid the Amex bill, which pisses me off royally -- I hate it when a vendor charges you for something before it's shipped... and is on back order to boot. I called up a couple of days later to add a precharger to the order (I got the part no from K&N), and specifically said to add it to the other order to prevent separate shipping charges. So, again, I get charged for the part (and full shipping charges, too).

Ain't too keen on these folks, even if their prices are lower than other outlets. You order from Summit, they don't charge your card until they've shipped it.

On the bright side, I ordered a new rear tire to replace one that sprouted legs and walked away. Ordered on a Sunday, delivered to my door on Tuesday. Amazing service, Tire Rack.

01-20-2005, 04:32 AM
I hope you don't have to wait as long as I have, I ordered mine Dec 27th and it's on backorder at the K&N factory. I talked to a guy friday and he said it was shipped, then I talked to a guy monday that said it hasn't been shipped but he should have the tracking number tomorrow morning, then I followed up Tuesday that said it is "probably shipped by now."
Sometimes you just gotta laugh, I got to a point of waiting where I forget about it and keep thinking it won't be in anytime soon, oh well, hope you have better luck! I had my drycharger ordered from K&N on 2nd day delivery b/c that was when I thought the K&N would have been in...needless to say the drycharger is standing on my desk literally collecting dust from my bedroom fan blowing into it. It must work! :P

Well, called back PerformanceCenter.com and made contact with Eric again. Yes, I could pay the 207 dollars or they would credit back my money. No, not their fault but K&N's as they gave them the wrong dollar value. No, we will not honour the price we posted because we have disclaimers and Yadda Yadda posted on our site....see how this went South quickly ?
I stated my documentation, Eric apologized but was quick to try and cancel the purchase and credit back my card. I settled with having him take it to 2 cee notes flat out and he said they could do that. I had him also find out exactly when they would ship out to us and requested he get back to me today. I will contact him today before he goes to lunch and see what has transpired.
Yes, it was too good to be true...and so the eighteen inch rims continue to turn... :D

...
Snipped a bit of verbage, but...
:bs:
Then this seems to be a problem between them and K&N.
I worked retail 5 years here in Michigan. When we hung the wrong prices on product, state law (I believe) induced us to honour the price that we tagged our items with. I work at a much larger firm now, and we're afforded a legal team ($11.00 per month!). I wonder if this is an issue that I should be pursuing with them?
Once again, this should not be an issue between the store and the customer, seems to me that their issue is with K&N.

If a company makes a mistake and looses money, eventually it will no longer be there. If we want companies to distribute parts for our limited audience, then we should allow them a reasonable profit.I love a bargain, but also realize mistakes happen.Sounds like the company has admitted there was a mistake,(maybe not by them),and offered the product for thier cost?It appears that they have priced it near 30% less than anyone else.If that is not acceptable, cancel your order. If you want a great kit at half the cost that has documented better gains check out JLT's kit (vendor here)and you will be contributing to our community. If not, stop it already! We're starting to sound like....Nevermind

DOnt know where this Performance centers is physically located, but usually state consumer protection laws don't allow them to charge your CC until the itme ships. Also if you wanted to make a case for it, and go to court, you could get them for that pprice, disclaimer or not. However that would cost you mucho more $$

if its too good to be true......:depress:

I kindof, think its funny that last week I told them to cancel my order, because they wanted to charge me 245, but then yesterday they called to offer me it for cost. I knew if it was the right part, that we all couldnt get it for the 91.99 price. I'll be happy with it at cost. Will I buy something from them again no, but to each his/her own.

BTW, if one of our vendors were selling this, I'm sure everyone would have bought it from them.

CHecked my credit card over this intake nightmare and found that ERIC at PerformanceCenter.com charged me back the 91 dollars....then charged the TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY-FIVE....Not the two hundred that we agreed to via our phone conversation...SO, y'all can laugh your btts off at me now...those that got it at "their" cost....enjoy ! As far as I am concerned, PERFORMANCECENTER.COM represented by this Eric character is another crappy little fly by night ripoff...Okay....the laughing can begin now....

If you were quoted one price, then charged another, CALL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY and file a complaint. Halt payment, if necessary, but DO NOT allow ANYONE to overbill your charge card!!!

Just checked my account on their site and it says they charged me properly for the $207? Strange.... I don't get it
The $261 price is their normal, discounted price. I think they enter a "discount code" or some such for an additional discount. I think you'll get the part for $207, which is the lowest price I've seen. Everyone else charges $285 plus shipping.

I don't like charging before shipping, which is a sign of a business with a tight cash flow such that they need the $$ to pay their vendor before they ship you your stuff. No likey. I've been burned by such types in the past.

That said, they have been accomodating and offered the part at cost, which shows something to me.

Check your account on their website - see what it says. Like my post said the email they sent said they charged 261, but their website said 207...

RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) then they charged the $108.01 additional (To the 91.99) to make the $200 new price. As far as the freight, looks like they make eat that for you and that $200 is price including the S/H. Not too bad.

It came today, so I really am looking forward to the intake!!

Anywho, the part number, obtained from K&N, for the drycharger that fits the Marauder intake is RF-1041DK (this a black one, they have other colors). Performanceparts.com has this in stock, the price is $30 plus shipping. Nice piece - here's what the label says -

"K&N DRYCHARGERS are pretreated with a proprietary hydophobic process and are manufactured from a durable polyester material. This material contains uniform micon openings that stop all debris .005 or larger, yet airflow is not restricted. Recent Dyno and flow bench testing has shown no significant loss of horsepower with the DRYCHARGER. This pre-filter will also prevent splashes of water or mud from saturating your K&N air filter. Please be aware this material is water repellant, not water proof. Depending on conditions and usage the water repellant treatment is good for 1 to 2 years, K&N Drychargers may be cleaned with soap and water or spotted with solvents to get tough stains out."

I was not playing with your emotions,I just talked to Eric @ Performance centers, he explained that the pricing on the website was incorrect. In lieu of this mistake members that ordered before the correction, are offered the kit @ cost $207.00He also mentioned to me he is willing to offer MM.net members a 5% discount for the next thirty days if when ordering you mention Eric or Steve by name. This is not in addition to the few that got the cost deal. The discount is given for the corrected price.I hope everone enjoys their kit and the added sound!

How/where did you get your tracking number?
The packing slip to my K&N drycharger (which I bought from Performancecenter.com) had my customer ID. I plugged that in on "order status" part of their website, and it showed both orders, including the intake, had shipped and showed UPS tracking numbers. They even linked to the UPS website.

The customer ID is the first three letters of your last name plus your 10 digit phone number, in my case CAR205856****

Oh, and it's a Fedex shipment, not UPS. Here's the link for my shipment:

http://fedex.com/cgi-bin/tracking?action=track&language=english&cntry_code=us&initial=x&mps=y&tracknumbers=046099240649263

Hi guys, this is Rich from PerformanceCenter.com. I don't have a Marauder (unfortunately :) ), but I wanted to address some of the concerns that have been brought up in this thread.

First of all, we may not be as big as Summit, but we're not a fly-by-night operation either. We've been in business for 8 years and have run PerformanceCenter.com for the last 3. Prior to that we worked exclusively on TruckPerformance.com ("brother" site to PerformanceCenter.com). We advertise extensively in most of the aftermarket enthusiast magazines - 5.0 Mustang, Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, SuperStreet, Import Tuner, Truckin, 4 Wheel & Off Road, etc.... We have a 30,000 sq/ft warehouse (feel free to stop by if you're local) and are located in Irvine, CA. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we've been here for a while and we're not going anywhere.

Second - regarding charging credit cards before products ship. This is normal in the auto industry due to it being an application based environment. There are simply too many Make/Year/Models to stock everything - even on a top line like K&N. If we don't charge for the parts up front we tend to get stuck with parts. This isn't a big deal on "A" movers, but it can be a big deal on "D" movers as we can't stay in business with a warehouse full of dead inventory. I'm not trying to imply that Marauder parts are slow movers, but there are a lot more F-150s and Mustangs on the road if you know what I mean. Besides, I'm pretty sure that if you order an exhaust or intake at your local Pep Boys or Kragen they'll charge you up front too (Correct me if I'm wrong). I hope that this makes sense.

Third, it sounded like Eric was getting a bad rap, but he's a good guy and he's our sales manager. I thought it was pretty cool of him to hook you guys up with the intakes for around $200 considereing retail is $260. I know it's a lot less than everyone else is selling them for.

Fourth, I know that some of you were dissapointed to not get the intake for the $91 originally posted. I appreciate that some of you realize that selling the intakes WAY below cost is bad for business and unrealistic to boot. I know someone mentioned complaining to the BBB, but I don't think they can sell you the intake for $91 either and they certainly can't force us to give them away for below cost :).

Finally, I really enjoyed reading this thread as it gave me insight into an outsiders perspective of our system. We've built what we think of as an effective interface, but when it comes to the returns/credits, etc... I can definitely see how it could be confusing. I'll mention this to our programming staff and see if we can build around it.

In the end it's our goal to take care of every customer. We want everyone to have a positive experience and to get their parts at a great price and in a timely manner. If anybody feels that they haven't been take care of or has been treated poorly, I'd really like to know. Please shoot me an email at rich@performancecenter.com. I manage the marketing department here and got involved due to Bradleys email through our Customer Comment link.

Thanks!

If members know about parts available for their Marauders,If they are desirable, would be "A" parts;) .There is still time to get a Marauder!
If any one lives close to Irvine Calif. ,Please stop by Performance centers and take Rich for a ride an a Marauder so he can catch Marauderitis! :burnout:

I received mine Thursday, as promised. It would have gone on today, except the weather was bad. It's a nice kit and I look forward to putting it on my car.
