It's really sad when you sell an old car and then you see it again, and the person hasn't taken care of it.

I sold my 95 SS back in August to some kid, and he came by to get the extra key and remote. I saw the car, it was filthy, and I asked him if he had change the oil, what kind he was using (since I used Synthetic). THe then informed me that he had driven 20K on the car since I sold it to him, and he has yet to change the oil in it. But he did spend money on the 20" rims, and threw the stock rims and 1000 mile old tires in the dumpster.

I guess since Its not my car anymore I shouldn't give a damn, but its just sad to see something I worked so hard to make/keep nice and in pristine conditon deteriorate to a nasty piece of junk.

Heres what it used to look like....

Thats whats wrong with todays youth.

They'll take a car thats worth $300 and throw $5000 rims on it.

I wonder what he'll be thinking when the engine quits due to abuse.
I feel your pain.

What a shame!
I must be getting old - I'm really starting to doubt the mental capacity of at least some of the "kids" today!

It kinda hurts the other way too!! I had just about the opposite experience. When my wife was rearended in the 1984 Dodge B-150 RAM Van in 1994, I traded it in on a Ford E-150 Conversion Van. The dealer moved it to the end of their lot, stuck an "As Is" sign on it, and sold my ten-year old Dodge for $1,000 more than my trade-in the very next day(I saw it on the lot and they hadn't even emptied the ashtrays). :(

A local guy bought it and I still see it on the road. Now it is more than 20 years old. He keeps it in good mechanical condition with good tires on it. However, the paint is peeling pretty badly. Funny thing is that the rear bumper has never been repaired and it is pushed down a bent like it was some 10 years ago. :D

It is very hard for me to part with any vehicle that I have for awhile 'cause they become part of the family ..... or something

I must be getting old - I'm really starting to doubt the mental capacity of at least some of the "kids" today!i have officially confirmed that i am an old man...

new neighbors across the street.. 3-4 teenagers hanging out in the front yard on sunday who i quickly became very suspicious of since the MM was out front.

i guess i have crossed into grumpy old man territory :)

i only peeked out the window every 5-10 mins

I sold my 1986 E/B Bronco back in 1999. I will spare you the laundry list of mods to that truck, but to touch on a few: 95 Lightning 351, bulit proof C6 & transfer case, custom consoles...yada yada yada. She was in very good condition when I sold it. She just started to show minor rust at the bottom of the doors and fenders. I sold it for a more practical car for a long commute at the time. I told the buyer "If it doesnt work out for you and you want to sell, call me first" Did she? Nope! While at the local hospital for a call, I see it sitting in the employee parking area. I stopped to take a look and was horrified at what I saw. Garbage everywhere. The passenger side was the trash can. Food wrappers, coffee cups, big gulps w/ cigarette buts. I wanted to :bigcry: ! I went back into the hospital and searched for the owner. Upon finding the "new" owner, I found out she was probably going to sell it. I left her my card and again tolder her to call me. Did she? Nope! Last time I checked carfax, it had a new home in South Carolina somewhere...:(

Man, if that truck could talk......

Sold my 99 P71 with the 1/6 made Roush Fascia to a friend of mine a year and a half ago. Saw the car two days ago in a Walgreens parking lot, doesn't look like it has been cleaned since I sold it (I mean this crud was THICK) a foglight from the bumper is missing and there are scrapes underneath that rare fasica like he parked it on top of curbs :mad2:

Years ago, I sold my Mint Condition Rally Sport Camaro to a coworker and two days later she fell alseep at the wheel and wrapped it around a telephone pole.

She then bragged about the accident and how she didn't get hurt for months afterwards including posting photos of the wreck on a bulletin board. What a loser.

I let go of one of my girlfriends years ago. I ran into her and the new guy she is with. They definitely don't treat them the same. She looks trashed out as well.

Even with some news performance mods and Rims she still would have been ugly. Oh Well! What can you do.

I hear ya Rich, my parents had a '68 Coronet (V8) that was sweet. In '78 they sold it to my cousin who was a school teacher in the Bronx at the time. My father had told her if you want to keep the car don't drive it over to the city. Did she listen ***** no and you know what happen, it was stole. The police found it a couple of days later, nothing stripped, and returned it to her. It never ran the same again. I was PISSED, I had wanted that car and in another year would of had my license. Oh yea they sold it to her for $10 dollars. :mad2: :censor:

I feel for you Wes and I understand. That kid might be driving your old Imp, but he is still a RICER. :bop:

That's why I sold my 88 Camaro (34,000 miles) to a guy in the next state - I don't want to see it again.

While he was definately a Camaro collector, and was very happy to get one that was not sun damaged (he pointed out to me all the plastic parts that normally are rotten that were in great shape on mine) I have a sneaking suspicion that the engine I worked so hard keeping in good shape was yanked out and replaced with his "hot rod" engine from his sun-damaged car. Yes it was only a 305, but GM never put a 5 speed behind a 350 in a 3rd gen camaro. But, once it's not mine, there's nothing I can do about it.

My parents bought my brother a used car when he turned 16. One day a man came running up in a parking lot saying "That's my car!" My mom just didn't understand.

While this is sometimes true.. it certainly isn't the de-facto standard among today's youth.

To each their own. There are just as many 30+ yr olds who are as clueless about automotive care as there are among the under 30 crowd. Every generation has its gearheads and those that see an automobile as transportation.
I could say the same thing about computers... how many 30+ year olds know wtf NTFS is? EXT2? SAMBA? DNS?

I recently saw the first car that I ever owned, modded, and detailed when I was teen.

It still has the aftermarket wheels I installed but it has been a long time since they have been polished.

The $200 leather steering wheel was replaced by one of those tiny chain link wheels.

Half of the body is now in primer due to an accident.

I took some pics of it and I still am saddened to think that it ended up like this.

Hopefully, when I sell the Vic in the near future, it will go to an owner who appreciates it.

My father sold a 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix in 1973. Last year the car turned up at our local Pontiac show. The GP was originally silver and is now red. :( I didn't look at the car but was talking to the current owner. I told him my father had a 63 GP but it was painted silver, He said " that GP was silver". I proceeded to check it out and sure enough it was the car. I made certain modifications that were still present. I also had the protect o plate that was issued at time of purchase ( includes owners name, vin #, etc.) in the glove compartment of my 1961 Bonneville conv. I was elated. :D The GP spent the past 30 odd years in upstate NY and the weather took it toll.

Back in 1981 I ordered a new 82 Jeep Scrambler pick-up (sometimes called a CJ-8) from a AMC dealership in Miami. Specified dark blue paint, hard doors and top, high back denim buckets, hardwood bed rails, chrome wheels and had all the external tape striping etc deleted/left off (plain). Found out when the new truck would be delivered into the Miami rail yard from Toledo and photograhed it while it was still loaded up on the rail car. Also took some photos of it as it was unloaded. Over the next twenty years only put about 40K on the clock, never drove it very hard and kept it pretty much locked away in my garage most of the time. A distant neighbor who also owns a small garage in the town I live in had been looking all over the south for a clean Scrambler and he somehow found out I had one. He kept making offers for the Jeep... I had a son just entering college= $$$$... so I finally sold it to him for several thousand dollars more than I had originally paid for it new. He solemnly agreed to keep it basically stock and take good care of it. As far as I can tell he has lived up to his promise. I told him if he ever felt the urge to modify it into an off road hot rod or some other such thing; call me... I would buy it back from him. I occasionally see the truck being driven around town on the weekends with the owner's happy faced small children in the back so it appears my old Jeep has found a good home. Must confess though to feeling a little twinge of "seller's regret" every time I see it.

Every once in a while I see the 95 GM that my 03 replaced. Got to admit, for a young college girl, she keeps our old car clean.

My dad was selling one of his cars once, always kept his cars real clean. While the guy was looking it over trying to talk my dad down in price he kept saying you must have spent days cleaning this old car up the engine even looks new-dad tells him " if you can't tell the difference between a clean car and one thats just been cleaned I'm not selling my car to you" the guy was pissed almost had to throw him out of the yard - he eventually sold it to someone else.

What a shame!
I must be getting old - I'm really starting to doubt the mental capacity of at least some of the "kids" today!
What?? I'm still considered by many "a kid" and i have been doubting the mental capacity of my peers for at least 2 years now. I've looked at friends and said, "Oh god, tell me i didn't act like this". I'm not sure what happened, but there is a definate change for the worse in the way the kids today act. Case in point, i have a quasi-friend (on a friendly basis, say hi to when i see, but don't call or hang out with on a regular basis) bought an Integra for like 3K, has headlights that cost like 1200. He justifies it by saying they are identical to the lights on the new BMWs. He has spent over 9K on that car 3X the amount he paid for it, the only "performance" mods are a CAI and a fart-can. the car runs high 15s. I don't know, i do not try to understand, i think if i did my brain would explode.

I feel bad hereing stories like this. I wonder if momy or dady paid for the car. Or mabe at age 19 was collecting dissability checks from the government.
