I wonder what shipping from Japan would cost??? Probably more that I would be willing to pay for the car (yeah, I know what it's about, but it just looks to ricey)...

It may be reasonable, comparatively. If you were able to spend $190K for this toy, shipping would be pocket change for you.

It's a remarkable bit of engineering. The problem is that it looks like any other faked POS ricer that are so common nobody looks twice. Now, spend that $$ on a Ford GT, a Ferrari, or have Chip Foose do his magic to a classic muscle car, and you turn heads.

Tell you the truth I'd rather have the Nismo R34 GTR. They are insane peices of machinery and, to date, there are only 67 legally in this country. I don't think it is a peice of rice, although i do concede that i could be riced out if in the wrong hands. The AWD system it has is insane, RWD until there is slippage then instantly up to 50%of all power and torque are transmitted to the front and as soon as it is not needed the car becomes 100% RWD again. While launching the car is a 4X4 but as soon as the rear wheels plant and become stable it is RWD, best of both worlds. It was an insane car but I definatly would not pay 200K for one, you can get a new R34 V-spec II through skylinegtr.com for 94K. Shipping to the US is around 5 to 6 thousand dollars, sometimes more depending on company or insurance. Unfortunatly the R34 model line has been discontinued and the Skyline has not been manufactured since early '04. There are talks of bringing the Skyline GT-R back in japan around 2007 with the new R35 body style. The R35 is being tested in the United States to see how people like the new style. Sales are strong here so Nissan intends to keep the style the same for the '07 GT-Rs. It is being tested in the US in the GT-s trim as the Infinity G35 Sport Coupe. Frankly i think the design went to hell in a handcart and hope that they do something magical with the mechanics to make me even start liking them again. (which probly won't happen)

Flame away but i have always really liked the R34 Skyline GT-Rs, Supra TTs, and sort-of-a-little-bit the Sylvias, they are really the only japanese imports i would ever consider driving. Especially if they were right hand steer!

No flames from me... I agree with everything you've said about the mechanics. It's a VERY impressive vehicle, the reason I don't like the car is all about the look.

To pay the asking price, I would assume you want to flaunt that you have something special (look at the other options in that price range). Like Donny Carlson, I don't think this would stand out as being something special, and would easily be confused with all the riced out imports running on the streets.

If anything, I think you'd get the exact opposite reaction... With the distinctive look of rice, I wouldn't be surprised if this car gets more people pointing and laughing, than oohing and awwing.

I'll agree, the NISMO upgrades are a tad much, but with stock paneling i like the car very much. Although i'm sure the NISMO mechanical upgrades back up the exterior. This is why i can't consider it rice. In my opinon anything can be riced out. In my opinion "rice"ing means, having a car with extensive visual modifications without mechanicals to back it up. Over the top on the outside, severely lacking inside. Oh-oh dennis miller quote coming, "Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

That is a lot of money to be the proud owner....of a six-cylinder.

It looks like "nismo" is painted on the lower grille, or the radiator/cooler whatever that is. Why put a stinking license plate braket on with a "nismo" plate? Looks like crap.

Because there is no accounting for taste....or lack thereof.

Definitely one impressive car. It was a shame when they said they were discontinuing the model. The GTR came in 1st and 2nd in their last JGTC race. I loved watching the Best Motoring videos of this car. You should see one version just fly through the rev band. Tuned properly, this flat 6 can produce 1000 hp, with turbos of course.

As much as I DISLIKE Ricers, I've always respected the Skyline since I saw one do awesome 4WD smoky burnouts on a TV show years ago...
Impressive mechanicals, but as mentioned, it looks like every other pimpled punk's Ricer!

I'd buy a 200mph Ford GT and burn $30,000+ on mods and gasoline!

In fairness to the local nationals, after having lived in Okinawa twice, they have some amazing cars on the Japanese Domestic Market. There is a company in LA that imports RHD Nissan Skylines from Japan, and they pass all the DOT and EPA regs. The cost is pretty high, about 4 to 5 times what you would pay for the same car in Okinawa.

But the two agencies don't have the same standards (EPA & DOT) so in essence the importer is beholden to two different authorities. As you may recall Bill Gates 959 Porsche was impounded by the Feds several years ago, and was tied up in court for a long time.

This company actually had to crash test Skylines in order to get them imported legally, so their startup costs were huge. Then they had to do the other things with the glass, bumpers, reinforced doors, speedo face, etc.

Kind of a lot of work, and then, if you've driven RHD cars, it would be hard to remember to stay on the right side of the road in an RHD vehicle, no joke. Paying tolls, stopping to show your military ID, etc. I know a few folks who imported Fairlady 280Zs and other cars, and while it was fun in the 70's and 80's, it's a lot of headache and heartbreak today. Even though the Skylines are CARB legal, you would spend a lot of time explaining your car to local civilian authorities.

Thanks for reading, -kjs-
