View Full Version : Help!!! defroster blowing snow!

Okay here we go...
As many of you know it is snowing here in the northeast (01-22-05).
I go out to my car, start it up and turn on my defroster close the door and start brushing off the snow from my car.
When I'm done I go to get back in my car to find both my front seats, dash, center console, and steering wheel covered in snow!!!!!!
I was so mad :mad2: , but that's not the worst of it the snow and moisture then turned to ice on the inside windows of the car impeading my view in already bad driving conditions. I would have to scrap the inside windows with my gloved hand to see where I was going.
I had the defroster set at about 79 degrees with the fan blowing on high.

What can be done to keep this from happening again???
Does anyone have a Marauder shop manual to explain how the heater/defroster works?
This is ridiculous, has anyone else experianced this problem???

Needless to say I am not happy about this.
When you buy a $30,000 car from the luxury branch of Ford you expect better.

how did the INSIDE of your car get covered with snow?

OK, you had the defroster set at 79 degrees...just a wild guess
but maybe set it at 90 degrees and/or get your heater core
serviced...

is it warmed up yet?

and...

why is the black beauty not garage kept?

the engine throws plenty of heat
you basically have a high speed furnace underhood
getting the heat from point A to B is the issue here...

OK, after the sarcasm, I owe you some serious advice...

Coleman makes a little $30 ceramic heater that provides
INSTANT heat through the cigarette lighter plug outlet

and more seriously...

did you mess with the air intake near the wipers
in their lower windshield position?

maybe the air filter is out?

you may have been shoveling snow
into your air intake and blowing it in

but seriously I never thought that was possible

P.S. I forgot this little message for the blue state Kerry supporters out there

This concern can happen in certain conditions (very cold, snow is loose and very fine) What happends is that snow gets sucked in the outside air inlet located on the passenger side wiper cowl.(if you open the hood you will see little vents on the passanger side by the wipers) It can happend when the blower is on high and you are brushing the snow from under the passanger side wiper. One way to avoid this is to switch the control to MAX A/C and then clean the car off then switch it back. What this does is turn is close the outside air door and recirculates the inside air. Some other car models have a cabin air filter located in the spot where the outside air gets sucked in. This also prevents other debri (such as snow and leaves) from getting into the vehicle. Our cars do not have these filters.

The whole car was covered with snow.
I brushed off the car including the base of the windshield and around and below the wiperblades. Snow should not be able to get in so easily this is a very stupid design! If anyone knows how to pervent snow or anything else for that matter from coming into the cabin through the defroster/heater please let me know.

Thanks

Thanks Killed Kenny, that helps explains things a little better.
I don't think I have every had a car that is so fussy about little things.

brush off the windshield
and
THEN turn the fan on high?

sorry couldn't resist

but since this EXACT model has been around
at least since 1992 (oh excuse me...we have hydro-formed
frame rails)...this couldn't have been much of a problem
just a freak occurence that would have been modified long ago...

bottom line...

bet it NEVER happens again

p

P.S. I know some wiseguy is going to say that our Panther is wayyyyyy different from the 1992 models...but let me put it this way...one of the MAIN reasons for my exterior modifications is that some DITZY (but leggy) girlfriends think that my WHITE 1992 Grand Marquis is exactly the same car as my BLACK 2003 Marauder...

we all know that legs are FAR MORE important than ditziness...ask NBCshooter

Is get your mother-in-law, wife, or someone else you need to get even with
to sit in the front seat (under the RUSE that you want her WARM and COZY)
with the defroster on high fan...

AND GO FOR IT

mmmmmmarauder,

Are you even from a state that experiances snow fall?

You seem to be making lite of a concern I have about my car that Killed Kenny was nice enough to explain can happen under certain conditions that just so happened to come together today.

Thanks again Killed Kenny.

THAT HAPPENED TO ME THIS MORNING!!!!!!!! I brushed my car all off, got in started it, turned the thermo up to 90 and turned the defroster on high. Then it started snowing in my car. I couldn't understand it and yes, my rearview, driver and passenger side windows, and my windsheild froze, i couldn't see anything. I had to put my side windows down, and wipe off my windsheild constantly to be able to see, i was so frickin mad, worst part is nothing seemed to unfrost the windsheild or the side windows.

that the potential for a unique and memorable practical joke
vastly outweighs the once in a lifetime experience of blowing snow
into your cabin...

and OH YEAH it is snowing like HELL in Chicago
it is fun to practice getting out of a slide with the
Uniroyals that come with the car...but you gotta rinse
the wheels off alot to keep the salt corrosion at bay

P.S. attention men from TEXAS and the BIBLE BELT
this problem seems to be a BLUE STATE epidemic

Hey Dark Knight,

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one this happen to.
Well not really I don't think it should have happened in the first place.
I bet this is the same spot that allows outside ordors into the car as well.
Hmmm... I'll have to think of some way to cover/filter this area of the cowl to help prevent this problem.

Easy way i found to defrost side windows is to aim your 2 outside register vents to the side windows, turn off the vents around the radio and set your heater to high and max a/c. Then switch back and forth from Max a/c and defrost as needed.

That would be hilarious though. Driving around with someone and be like, "Wow, it's so beautiful outside."
"Yea, it is"
"Hey, this is one of those special Marauders."
"What's so special about it?"
"It comes with an artificial snow generator"

The funny thing is, i know at least 3 people that would honestly beleive me.

My grandmother would beleive it, one time she saw a mirror at a buffet and while we were waiting in line she pointed at the mirror and said, "hey we should go wait in that line, it's much shorter", i have another friend who beleived that the squeaky belt on my old towncar was actually a supercharger.

. . .
maybe the air filter is out?. . .
is there a cabin air filter?

Krytin
01-23-2005, 05:27 PM
no cabin filter
KilledKenny has this nailed down pretty tight - read his posts.
The only way to prevent snow from blowing into cabin is to clear the air intake @ right cowl before starting car/turning on HVAC. Ford used to mention this in older model owner manuals - haven't checked the MM's.
