As I was posting the other articles on the 2005 Police Cars, I noticed this blurb in Police Fleet Manager:
"The only significant service issue was the 04S16 safety recall involving the premature wear on the rear axle shaft or rear axle bearing. This affects only the 2003 model CVPIs produced from October 10, 2001 (start of 2003 model year) through December 2002. A running change to the axle was made on 2003 model CVPIs built in January 2003. This issue was upgraded from TSB March 2005 to campaign 04S16 in July 2004."
Is this anything we should be concerned about, because of shared parts?

Nope. It is only for CVPI, Taxis, Limos and Livery Town Cars.

I don't know; this sounds exactly like the soft-axle TSB that went out for all CV's and GM's that also affects Marauders made thru the end of 2002. I think that TSB # was 03-5-55 or something similar.
Before he did my 4:10 gears I had my mechanic check the rear axles and bearings for any kind of scoring or wear. My car is a pre-decontented 300B made 10-23-02.
The FLM service manager confirms they did dozens of these repairs all on cars manufactured in late 2001 through all of 2002. Mostly police crown vics but MM's as well.
How is this different?
Thanks,
Norm

:o Not sure about the number, but from the report from OASIS my MM had the rear axles replaced at about 10,000 miles by the dealer (previous owner).

Absolutely! Many of us here with that build range have had this repair performed. It's an official FMC TSB for the Marauder along with the models that you mentioned.

Funny you brought this up! I was about to post about mine. The rear has been making noise since last summer, but wasn't enough to be a bother, car still under extended warranty anyway. Went in for service yesterday, and also asked them to check the rear axle noise. To make a long story short, my car was built during the time frame of the TSB. Although not MM specific, not even mentioned, we do have the differential in question, as it's used in the Police package, IAW my service writer. At any rate, the replacement parts are on order and will be in next week. Whether it's covered under the TSB or my extended warranty, it'll still be $50 well spent. Gee, and new engine at 52k miles, now new axles and bearings at 74K, and the trnny was upgraded by Dennis at 54K. I should be good for awhile now!
:woohoo:
