I think he was trying to knock the kid off his bike with the door or maybe grab something from the kid/bike? You can hear a bump noise just before he falls out.

Cause i would think if it were parked all the kids in the first car would have seen it coming and avoided it as would dumb s**t in the back, assuming he had the reasoning potential to realize, "Car, bad".
