My key fob is acting like the signal is getting weaker.

What is the expected battery life in these?

Will it work after replacing the batteries or will it have to be re-programmed?

Thanks

The battery should last 5 or more years. The transmitter does not need to be reprogrammed after changing the battery.

Have the dealer check it out and be sure to bring both remotes. I needed to have the receiver module replaced last fall, the range had fallen to 2 feet from the car using either remote.

I tosted my battery in 1 1/2 years or about 15,000 miles.

I also have remote start so that might drain it down faster?

The remotes for my 97 Taurus are still going strong with the original batteries.

Thanks to all who have replied to my post.

I will test out the other remote tomorrow and see if that one works better.

I was hoping it was just a battery.

I do have the remote start / alarm dealer installed option.

Thanks

My car has about 40k miles on it now. The stock battery is doing just fine. Also, i mistakenly washed my keys (inside a pant pocket) and it didnt hurt them. I just opened up the fob and let it dry out overnight. I was suprised everything works fine. And now its clean...
