Funny you should bring this up. Todd (TAF) and I had a discussion regarding this issue and came to the conclusion that it is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

And not only did my wife (Ladyhawke) find and talk me into buying the Marauder, she is also the one who found out that Kenny Brown had a S/C package and told me to 'go ahead' and get it. :D

My wife is around here, but she would never respond to such a question.
Meaning...we make decisions together based on what is best for the family. It would be a rare occation that dialogue would end in as you say..."go ahead", unless some type of resolve was reached beforehand, or I actually had the 'personal' disposable income to do so with out effecting the family as a whole.
The S/C decision is an easy one. Daycare runs $5000 a year. I don't have the personal disposable income...WE do, but WE need to pay daycare and a hefty mortgage...and....so on...
I am fortunate that my MM runs well enough that an S/C at this point is more of a status-quo to me than an actual neccessity.
The other thing is, if WE had the $5000+ to toss around right now...WE'D be on the phone with the travel agent on our way to an 11 day cruise around the Carribean. I probably could have bought EIGHT S/C's by now for all the traveling WE have done. In my case, the travelinn' is funner.:P
And now that we have a third passenger.....man these trips have added up...:shake:

wtf spending $6,000 on a stupid car part is not something you just run to Sears with and then hand your wife your $150 receipt when you get home. She has a personal bank account, I have a personal bank account...We maintain a joint household account that she's in charge of and I make a predetermined deposit into each payday (she also deposits money into that account). I think that "Tallboy" has it right in his post. if you splurge on your lady, then she shouldn't have any problems with you splurging on yourself. It kills me how we can spend up to $50 or even $60 on a dozen of long stemmed roses arranged in a vase and sent to a lady, and most of them don't have any problem with us spending that kind of money for something that will only last 2-3 days at best simply because it's for THEM, but some of those same women will squak all month (and some all year!) about a $6K car part that will last years, because it isn't for THEM......it's all about THEM..... .

Yeah it *is* different.... a $50 pair of shoes does not compare to blowing $6,000. and it has nothing to do with "permission" i made a joke on starting the thread... didnt know i'd get so many guys jocks in a bunch... when you have 2 little preschoolers and a house to maintain, yeah... i would'dnt dream of making a $6,000 purchase without saying "hey Charl... errr... i wanna...." I love being married and actually made the "engagement ring vs. Trilogy" choice a year ago (do a search on the thread). I didn't consult her on that choice and probably wouldn't consult her on a new supercharger purchase either. He knew who I was when she married me (and did it anyway:) ). We have an understanding.

.....I don't know about your wife.....but too many American women are control freaks......but it's mens' fault for putting up with that.......
I know a woman who litererally has 104 pairs of shoes....and she still can't wait until next week to shop for more.......how is that any different than a S/Cer purchase? But her hubby puts up with it.........why?....I think you know the answer to that.......and so do I........BTW, their home is worth about $180K so this isn't neccessarily a couple who's filthy rich either........but this is just one example of expenses. As long as we're all being "retarded" I get to have fun too.
I would tell my wife I was planning to buy one, and explain how I intend to pay for it. That would be the issue, and not the fact that it was for my car.
We split bills. I pay everything concerning the house, and she pays daycare and food. If she wants to buy something, she tells me, tells me how she is going to pay for it, and then she does what she wants.
We are both responsible, and we can handle ourselves. We don't need to answer to one another but like to keep each other informed. I can ignore the baby clothing discussions, and she can  when I talk about mods.
Oh, and we don't celebrate vday, either. Since it's not even a holiday and was created for greed, we like to show affection for each other every other day of the year. Today we curse and fight, 'cause it's fun.

It just seems to me that marriage shouldn't be about compromise so much as it should be additive for each individual. Neither indvidual in marriage should really be forced to give anything up in union, but rather bring something additional that both benefit from.
So I would look at this as she a got a supercharger that she would not have otherwise gotten had she not been married.

Dooney Burke hand bags with matching accessories work really well too....;) "Rings on her fingers,
bells on her toes
and a bone in her nose, ho ho!"

My wife is super sweet and has let me mod away even if it means no warranty (knock on wood).
So far, the answer is maybe after its out of warranty, which from new is 1.7 years based on my driving.
And I'm thinking more higher than 5000 when you figure in s/c, install and probably widened rims to hold her to the ground.
I'll keep working on my wife. (I know she'll say yes if I bug enough)
Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid, can I ma, can I.

You all forgot the most Important Thing That these cars were suppose to come from the factory with the trilogy setup but due to a woman in control over there (I can't remember her name and don't really want to) that is why they didn't make it to our cars.
You've given this some thought. I want to try this logic with my lovely bride. Maybe she will be impressed enough to not hit me in the head.

That when women say, with a crabby face, 'go ahead', that it's a DARE...... NOT PERMISSION ??? :argue:
especially when talking superchargers!
:mad2:
I don't have to ask PERMISSION .... I decide if I want to get a Marauder, to buy a supercharger, or throw money away on a 28 foot SeaRay Express cruiser. :D The decision is easy ... now getting hold of the checkbook ... that's a different story.
Seriously, the process that has worked for the past 30 years is that we come to agreement on every major purchase. Generally, this is in the neighborhood of $100.00 give or take with some exceptions like Christmas, birthdays, etc. But, I am well aware of the limits that'll bust the bank. Living expenses and obligations first ... then the niceties !!! :)

I dont know why you boys want your cars to go so fast, and spend an arm and leg to make them go so fast..... last i checked, the speed limit in the U.S. averages 65 mph as the high. :P

It's not the speed limit that's important.
It's how short a time it takes to get there that counts!! :D
First one to the speed limit. . . WINS!! :banana2:

Yeah, guys tend to be big spenders when it comes to their toys, but a number of women will nickle and dime their way into debt shopping for shoes at the mall with plastic money even though they already have 30 or 40 pair at home. So over a year or two it might very well work out to the same cost. same end result.....just two different means.
I've tried to add this up,but even with the FACTS I still lose!
I even through in the fact I don't spend time parked on a bar stool, chase TAIL and I come home every night, but still......................... .......

I didn't tell her how much a S/C cost though. So what am I doing after she goes to bed, on Valentines Day. Search--EBay: Dolls, Rod stewart, Paper..:D :D :D

Well, I like to have fun too. :D The last mod to my car, an 02 Firehawk, was a Loudmouth exhaust system. It now sounds the way it should have from factory and gained a couple extra horses. I can't wait to dyno it and run it at the track again this spring. :woohoo: :drive:

All I got to say is this, and then I'm getting off the soapbox...
My wife and I both work our tails to make what we can and it isn't easy.
We have to support Uncle Sam, Westchester County, City of Yonkers,
a Mortgage, a Tuition, 2 car payments, fuel for both cars,
insurance for both cars, Cablevision, Con Edison, Verizon, two AT&T/Cingular lines,
and take turns playing chauffer for an 8 year old that thinks money grows on trees...
Whenever we got a little extra money to spend on ourselves,
it usually goes to the rug rat before it gets to us.
Once in a while when it gets to finally be spend on us, we get whatever we can,
if its gold, silver, platinum, or stainless steel...
The way we look at it, whatever it is, its made of metal, and brings a smile to our faces...
Thank you...

I agree. Good Job Lisa.
I have a question for Bunny. Since you would have installed a supercharger this spring regardless of whether you won it or not. Please go spend the $6000 to buy one and send me your the kit that you won. I'll pay the freight and reimbusre you the $100 you spent on the ticket. I might even throw a case of Amsoil in for Bob. He needs to get a little something out of this deal too. :D
