Here is a photoshop image of what a Mercury/Cobra badge might look like.
I was thinking that it would probably look better on the trunk lid than the front grille.
But I don't even know if a cobra badge would fit inside the Mercury circle.
My thinking is that the Marauder and the Cobra have the same basic motor anyway so what the heck!

Does anyone on this site own or have access to both a Cobra and a Marauder, to let us know if a Cobra badge will fit inside both the front and rear Mercury emblem???
Because if I remember correctly one of the two Mercury badges is smaller than the other.

AS you can see from SoulRiots post of my car it can be done .I've done this mod about 10-11 months ago on the front only. You have to cut away part of the Cobra to make it fit.

Cobra25,

What Cobra did you use?
Was it from a grille or was it a fender badge?
Because I was thinking the fender cobras might be smaller than the grille cobra, but I do not know for sure.

I measured the rear mercury logo on the Marauder.
The size of the opening where the cobra would go is 2.5", but the fender Cobra emblem is 2.75".
Now it still my be possible to do if you can find a Cobra "keychain" that is under 2.5" tall or a cobra "center cap" (just like what others have done with the gods head logo).
I just wanted to let everyone know that the fender cobra wont fit in the rear Mercury emblem. :(

I have cobra snakes for both vintage and modern, and the modern (plastic) will fit if the bottom were trimmed (sanded?) about .030 inch. The bottom (coiled) portion of the snake is just the smallest bit too flat.

make mine billet... I want one! Great idea! :bows:

thanks

I found cobra center caps at www.50resto.com
I do not know if these are ford part numbers or 50 restos part numbers.
Maybe "The Dealer" could shed some light on the subject.

I was thinking how people on the group would like to have their own personalized front and rear badges.
Some have opted for the "Godshead" conversion, Cobra25 went with the Cobra. As I posted earlier you could use any 2.5" centercap that you like, but that isn't really personal.
So I was thinking how could you make your very own personal graphic that would fit in the center of the mercury logo and be more or less weather proof.

Then out of my childhood came, are you ready for this...
"Shrinky Dinks" http://www.shrinkydinks.com

I check out their website and they have printer friendly sheets :)
You could create your images/graphics on your computer print them out and shrink them to size.

You have to remember that "Shrinky Dinks" shrink 1/3 their size, so 2.5" opening would need to be 7.5" when printed out (before oven time).

Another thing to note would be to print out the image negitively (backwords) and paint the back of the plastic white (after oven time) so the ink surface would be protected and that way you can see the image through the clear plastic front, sort of like an animated cartoon cell.

I have not tested this theory as of yet so I'm going to have to hit the local "toys r us" sometime this week and see if I can find some plastic "Shrinky Dink" sheets.

If anyone tries this before me be sure to post your results.

Just think of all the custom graphics you could make. :)

very interesting, one thing I remember is that they didnt always stay flat after bake time. But I am waiting to see your results.

Cobra25,

What did you do with the emblem behind the applied Cobra emblem? How did you do it, in other words? :)
