Well this morning I got in the MM and made my way to college. Its a 30min ride
Up 128n in MA. Well here is a brief history, the car was owned by a man<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com />
<P style=
in MI and it had chronic tranny problems. The original dealer could not figure
The problem so Ford bought the car back and sold it at auction, where it
Was fixed by A Merc "RAV" dealer and sold to me at 7,000 miles. So far
Its had the chronic Trans problem (not under my ownership) a new thermostat
And today a new problem. On the highway I lost the radio, then blinkers,
then Rev-meter, then speedometer, heat, then the car died in the middle of the
Highway. Luckily made it to the side. Had to walk about an hour to the police
Station (forgot cell at home...i know) all this within 11,000 miles oh did I mention
The paint sucks on the 300a... Does all this just make you wonder? Anyway
Just had to vent thanks for listening

Wow, sorry to hear about the problems with your MM. :( Sounds like the computer fried or shorted out. Symptoms are similar to when the computer chip failed on my 1989 Buick Regal. Everything started shutting down. Hope this is still under warranty with only 11,000 on the clock. There have been some threads here mentioning wiring harness issues and bends over sharp metal edges that might chafe through.

I will be MM less in the morning. I talked to salesmanager that has my check, and he told me that there are 2 mm with less than 4000 miles coming up for sale at a ferd corporate sale. AS usual, I find this out after I sell all my performance parts.

You definately should be able to get them to replace the steering wheel under warranty! Mine did the same thing, and I think several others here had the same problem! Insist that it be replaced!

I didn't have any trouble getting the steering wheel replaced when I had the same problem. The dealership where I bought has been great so far.

I think the dealer nailed it when they changed the altenator. The syptoms match what happens when they go bad.

It still won't hurt to check the wiring harness
that runs over a support strut by the windshield wiper
motor. See early posts on this issue in April 2003.
Good Luck

BINGO!!!
Give the wiring harness a thorough inspection. There are numerous threads about the problem, and many of the weird results from the mini-shorts caused by it. In medical terms, it's like having a bunch of tiny strokes, warning you that the big one's on its way.
I'm the 4th guy out of 8 posts that suggested this could be the root cause of the problem, no matter what else you do, check that harness; which means, of course, we're wrong. ;)

You guys hit that one on the nose, it was the alternator AND a short in the
wiring harness. They called today and gave me a Ford Tourus (LOL can't spell it) loaner car cause the car will not be done till Friday night. Ah well the Ford
is a nice 1 dark grey with black leather wood trim and all the goodies. Gotta look at the bright side, less miles on the MM. :D Thanks for the pointers guys

OK, gotta ask, what exactly is a "RAV" dealer?

I forgot what it stands for its in my desk some where, but there are a
few RAV Ford dealerships in the US. When ford dealers cannot figure out problems with warented cars Ford buys the cars back from the owner and sells the car at a Ford dealer action where RAV dealers usually by the car and some of the best mechanics Ford has to offer fix the problem and resell the car with a new warranty. In my case the MM had chronic tranny problems that the dealers in MI could not figure out so the car was sold at a Ford dealer auction and fixed at the RAV
dealer in MA. I have a packet that the dealer gave me but thats in my oun words...

Ok, what did we win? We just saved you and Ford a ton in frustration and expense. I think, at the very least, a few attaboys are in order. Oh, you've already done haven't you? ;)
