Eat...a lot, in the hours before you give . If you're like me and you eat 4 cake snacks before you give take upon an activity such as this...you better be ready.
So I gave a pint of in school today and I didn't eat a lot except for immediately before and after. About an hour after and after lunch, I started feeling tired in class and started to fall asleep. Then I didn't feel good, and I stood up to ask my teacher if I could go to the nurse. As I stood up, I couldn't see and I thought I was going to black out. I made it to the nurses room without being able to see and she said "You don't look so good, how do you feel?" "I gave today" and she said "Well why don't I get you some gatoraid." At this "pint" I released my lunch into her sink...and sat down.
"You're not driving anywhere today" and that led to a conversation on sports cars and Marauders! I had an open oppourtunity to talk about my dad's car and what I want. She was very interested and expressed a bit of interest in Ford, mostly the hardtop Thunderbird.
Anyways, give , it's a good cause, I'll try again in four months. And don't forget to
EAT FOOD BEFORE YOU GIVE !

I think your short a few "bloods" in your story.
Least that is what I have managed to deduct from this.
However for the record ...
I think I'm begining to lose it.
So I might be wrong.

Uh, don't they have signs saying this at the donation site?
And nurses that ask you if you have eaten before donating?
And a pamphlet you're supposed to read that explains the need for food?
I get bombarded with this stuff when I go.
Of course I'm not a girly-man so I have never been sick, either.

EDIT: My brothers and I have a rare blood type. We get called too often. We would go during HS and race to see who could fill up their bag the fastest. They got a bit impatient with us. :D

Of course I heard this 8 times before I dontated. I thougth a load of cake things would suffice.

The Red Cross normally has cookies and juice available right after the donation. Guess you didn't take the freebies ..... :D
I used to be a frequent donor. However, for about the past 10 years, I have been ineligible to donate because of my military service overseas. Kind of ironic, huh ?? Restrictions affect most service members/veterans that have spent at least 3-6 months in Europe in the past. I think it has something to do with Mad Cow disease or some such ....... :(

Ditto. A fellow A+ ? Or are you one of them crazy "O"'s ;)
I always race the guy next to me. I bleed well. ;)
Cudos to you James. I donate every 2nd month, and there is nothing like the feeling when they put the 'special' tag on my donation, indicating it'll save the lives of up to 10 newborns.
It's worth a little discomfort once in a while.

Take it from somebody who's nearly bled to death, twice. Sugar intake = life in low blood volume situations. ;)

That's awesome of you guys, makes me want to give blood often.
Exciting. And the nurse at school didn't need to ask me twice if this would deture me from giving blood again. It won't.

Giving blood is the best way to give of yourself. Been doing it for 20+ yrs. I am AB+ so they love me.
As a side note, at MVII we had a blood mobile for those who wanted to donate, sadly the count was only 5. PLEASE give if you can its a matter of life!!!

Sometimes being a lardass has its advantages.
1 pint of ruby red from Donny = Huh, wha? You eatin that cookie?
1 pint from Woaface = I feel faint....thud!

Well, I will probably get kicked off the site for asking this, but I feel compelled, so can you tell me is Elaine okay?

I started running into the same problem myself, so I gave up trying to give.

Haha...funny Donny. You should see how much I usually eat. It's starting to me off I can't gain weight for the life of me! I eat as little as 5 and as much as 10 lbs of food each day. GAR!
Yes, Elaine is doing well. She's been accepted to the University of South Carolina Honors College. We still dance.

I've found on the days leading up to donating I need to start pounding WATER!
I'm a fast bleeder too,and EVERYTIME I donate I go OUT.
But I still do it.
The local Air Force Hospital has a monthly blood drives so I give twice a year, and the blood goes to our soldiers and is not sold for profit $$.

Never tried plasma or platelettes. 4:20! That only about 8 seconds faster than me!

That is the secret! 2 litres of water the night before, and a steak dinner! One liter of water an hour before as well! Sometimes they have trouble shutting off the tap!
In Canada, it's illegal to charge money for any body part, and blood is a body part. There is no compensation here for donating blood, just the really good cookies afterward, and the pat on the back for saving someone's life. Really, what better compensation is there?

My girl is a 'big' girl. I just have her sit on my chest. ;)
Why do I think the blood drive at MVIII is going to be out of a Monty Python skit?

Got my blood doner card in the mail today.
Nothing special, I'm O+.
But my mom suspected I'd be O-, as is my sister and she.
But I took after my dad.

My blood type isn't rare at all. I had it checked early when I was kid. Since it's not very rare, I don't bother donating. You don't want my blood anyhow...
