Good read, i know its a bit dated, but nice anyway. I wish they would have come through with some of those promises. I would have loved to see a grey color offered.

I have admired these cars from the inital concept. The sticker price was the bigest deternt. All I can say is ... Finally!

Yea, the midnight grey of the Crown Vics or the Shadow Grey of the Mustangs would have been nice.

Great article Mark, thanks for posting the link.

I think Ford made a big mistake cancelling it's plans for the Marauder.

Looks like we've got the last taste of big car muscle.

I'll say this. . .it sure tastes good:burnout:

I have the original magazine with article. Once I read it back in 2002, I was owned.

Called the Mercury dealer and put a deposit down to get the first one in Memphis.

I don't think Mercury made any major mistakes.
I'm 99.99% sure that the DEALERS are to blame.

I worked for years putting in computers at new car dealers. Most dealer's sales tactics with the Marauder were lame to say the least.
There were several dealers that were successful in selling Marauders.
The dealer here in Memphis told me they didn't come in Red!!!
The sales department at the other dealer here in Memphis did not want to sell you a Marauder they'd try to get you to buy on of them "Grandmas keys"

Think all this is cool? It’s just the beginning. Later in ’03 you will see a “feature car” program, probably called X-100, that will feature a variety of power and visual upgrades that may (or may not) include headers, an X-pipe exhaust, Baer brakes, Edelbrock valve covers, 3.73 gears spinning newly styled 19-inch wheels, a moonroof, and specific paint (probably not yellow, for obvious reasons). Everything is up in the air right now.

 waaaay up in the air!

"Or wait, 'cause this Marauder thing is only going to get better, and there's no end in sight."

Or, Ford might overprice the MSRP, not advertise it at all, not train any dealer salesman, and then drop it after two short years!!!
