Here is an immaculate blown 00 CV we finished tuning today, the car showed up Monday with a smoked transmission and a shattered rear window that apparently, happened on the way here while on the trailer, so we pulled the transmission and sent it out for a complete rebuild with a level 2 build kit.

While the transmission was being reworked we had the rear windshield replaced, after the transmission came back We installed we a PI 3000 stall converter flushed the transmission cooler, this car has built 4.6 SOHC motor with a C&L intake Vortech V2 42 pound injectors 90 MM LM along with a Water to air after cooler with a dry ice canister, we installed a colder set of plugs.

After a warm up and check of all fluids we strapped it on the dyno and within five pulls had it dialed in to 436 RWHP, the car runs great and it will be at Fun Ford this weekend I am also taking a Built Marauder my Mark 8 and my 02 GT we just finished with I hope to see some of you down there.

Dennis

Now that is a nice car.

Dennis - is that one of your Vortech kits for the SOHC 4.6? Any input on what is done to the motor to get that kind of power since it seems like most CV and GM owners have a hard time just hitting 300 RWHP, even with a supercharger?

Just asking as I have thought about getting a 2001 or newer Crown Vic sport that would have the PI heads, but really have a hard time with the 70 hp or so deficiet between it and the Marauder stock, and then the fact that adding a supercharger to the CV doesn't give near the gains that you get adding one to the Marauder.

Just kicked that idea around since the CV Sport is a fair amount less than even a used 2003 Marauder.

Eric91Z ... Just asking as I have thought about getting a 2001 or newer Crown Vic sport that would have the PI heads, but really have a hard time with the 70 hp or so deficiet between it and the Marauder stock ...
The deficit ( 67HP ... 63HP if you go 2003+ ) can be narrowed to ~40 HP with some bolt-ons; Marauder airbox/MAF (with accompanying tune), UD pulleys, etc.. *More if you want to muck with timing and colder plugs and thermostat.

+(plus) you have more torque than a stock Marauder to boot. *Remember FtLbs get you moving. :D

Gdmjoe,

As you know, I also post and lurk around at cv.us and cv.net, but have never seen anyone say that the SOHC 4.6 has more torque than the DOHC. Is that true? I would look mostly at the '03 or maybe '04 CV LX Sport.

Low-end torque - yes I believe so.

Stock 2003+ LX Sport - 287FtLbs
Stock 2003+ Marauder - 318FtLbs

*And ya I know ... 287 is not > 318.

After the above noted mod's (without a timing bump) - 260FtLbs at the rear wheels (16Oct2004 - Marauder only dyno' session @ Team Ford).

Not to purport this as typical, though did notice that my run had more torque than another members stock Marauder that was also dyno'ed after mine.

Was also told by the tuner (Aric) that a timing bump would net significantly more gains; however, the tune is for 87 octane and therefore conservative.

Addendum information (after seeing HookedOnCV's post ) .....

Like Todd, I also have the ADTR ( Angry Duck * Tofu Racing ) intake tube; not to imply that it contributes significantly to HP / FtLbs, but it brought to mind other intake mod's that were in effect at the above dyno' session ...

- ported / polished throttle body adapter. *Angry Duck * Tofu Racing
- intake manifold spacer. *Steeda

Easy bolt-ons that again are not BIG HP / FtLbs contributers, but every litter bit helps.

Since that time I've added a heat shield to the intake tube (which is powdercoated steel) to reduce the heat-sink factor; no guaged thermo' readings were taken, however, the touch/feel meter indicates that the tube is significantly cooler than the bottom of the heat shield. *And that's gotta be more better. :D

The first thing I did for modifications to my 2001 Crown Vic was order a Marauder airbox and 80mm MAF, colder plugs and t-stat, and a chip from Dennis programmed for 92 octane. I could easily get away with 89 octane during the cooler winter months without running into any knock.

The dyno (SAE corrected) numbers that I got were 226 RWHP / 269 RWTQ, or 264 HP / 314 TQ at the crank. Read about it here. (http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB25&Number=173846)

One of the other big differences from DR's chip was the quicker shifts and higher rev limiters. It was actually scary when I first got on it and had it shift into 2nd gear at nearly 50 MPH and spin the wheels (OK one wheel...that was before I got the Trac-Lok installed). Lots of fun!!! This was just befor the Marauder was released, so I couldn't actually compare it at the time, but I know I would be far happier even today with that performance over a stock Marauder.

With my s/c installed, it isn't really a fair comparison to a stock / slightly modded Marauder.

An addendum to GDMJoes addendum...

That is the first I have seen of GDMJoe's heat shield around the intake tube. I agree that less heat is good, very functional!!!. I got my ADTR tube with the Jet-Hot ceramic coating to help keep some heat out. If the air is traveling fast enough during WOT, then the heat shouldn't make too much difference right? :D
