Z06 Corvette

Went to "Berger Chevrolet" yesterday to checkout the new 'vette. Dealership is large, old, well established, and known as a performance dealer nation-wide. Their showroom was remodeled a year or two ago with a $$Million facelift. West Michigan has a huge GM/Chev/Vette following, helped by three large GM parts plants in the area of Grand Rapids. They didn't have even ONE Corvette in stock and the showroom was filled with salesman offices. There wasn't a single car in the showroom! This was a VERY strange experiance for me. Anyone know if there is a shortage of 'Vettes? :beatnik:

Not sure on teh shortage of 'Vettes, but I don't like that new layout for some dealerships. They have all of this floor space that they use with modular cubes for the salesmen and very few cars in the "showroom" kind of frustrating. On the other hand, I spend my time driving through the lots anyway since I like to look on my own until I am ready to drive.

As for the shortage of 'Vettes, I have yet to see a Z06, but each of the 2 dealerships I have been through recently have had at least a couple of C6's on the lot or inside. And this is in little, old central Iowa.

Up here in mid-MI (tri-citites area) there's some on the lots. Only one or two per dealer, but for the price and demand I wouldn't think they'd have dozens at a time! Even if they are nice cars.

Z06 won't be available until this fall as a 2006 model. Only reason for the shortage of new Vettes is the feeding frenzy on the part of buyers. Down here in the Atlanta area, dealers can't keep them in their lots for more than a couple of days.

Kerbeck Chevrolet in Atlantic City has the most Corvetts in stock.I think they are the # 1 dealer.. The had at least 15 Corvetts on display at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Feb. The had three 2005 Brass Hat Corvetts ( exec. driven) with 10K on the odometer and $7,500 off sticker. :D

John, we talked about going over there and getting one of those, some day; but I'd guess all the Brass hat ones have automatics. Still,i t would be worth the trip, just for the eye candy. :)

Finally got to see a 2005 Corvette (convertible) in a dealers showroom. 'Classic' Chevrolet had a loaded black one with a retail of about $61,000. Base was $51,000. Salesman said they've had it on display 2 weeks, they charge sticker and they usually go quickly. He said some dealers charge thousands over retail! Brake option upgrade is $1600+, and a power top is a $2,000 option!!! $2,000 EXTRA for a power top!!!...and it only weighs 14 pounds more than the manual top! That's a $142 per pound option! No wonder Mustang's sell so well. Looks like you could get 2 matching Mustangs for the price of 1 'Vette.

Motortrend, September 2005, pages 18-19 have an article about the Corvette "Z06 Hot Laps the 'Ring". :D The Z06 posted a lap time of 7:42 around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe driven by Jan Magnussen. He drove four laps posting the best time on the last run. That's an average of 110.65 MPH over the 14.2 mile, 73 turn course. Check the stats below to see that the Z06 is running ahead of some very pricey competitors. :burnout:

It says that they switched suspension settings and changed various tires. But, the run was made on treaded tires -- not racing slicks. :D
