You apparently don't have a teenage daughter. I've seen my daughter's dance classes have to compete against almost pornographic dance routines done by other schools and dance studios. I for one think it's a great idea to ban this type of cheerleading. If I wanted to to see young girls "strut their stuff", I'd go down to the local strip club.

Why is that wrong? If you had a teenaged daughter, would you have a problem with men that stare and oogle, and objectify underaged girls dressed in skimpy outfits?

They're not saying that they want to stop cheerleading, just try to clean it up a little bit. Its too 'suggestive' in most cases.....

Just another self-promoter, trying to get elected to even higher office in a bible-belt state. I predict the courts will throw it out, as it should be because who will set those standards? The governor? It's gonna be like the "decency" laws used in comedy clubs on Lenny Bruce. Soon, saying "fart" will be grounds for expulsion.

I have a teenage daughter (14) and she knows about the birds and the bees and also what this type of dancing is intended to do. My daughter also dresses conservatively, doesn't use gutter language and is telling me all the time about "those crazy kids" that don't know that they're still kids, trying to talk like Chris Rock and having sex and taking drugs. And she doesn't do these things because the state taught her to or because she's afraid of me. She does it because I tell her the truth. I taught her to see the world as it really is, herself as she really is, and took the time to explain why these behaviors are self-destructive. I was involved in her life more than my own, because I'm a good father. If you want to know the secret of being a good parent it's this, I love her more than I love myself. That's what makes any parent a good one.

The real problem with morals in this type of hot-button issue is that too many parents don't take the time to sit down and talk turkey with their kids. They want the state to take over their kids' moral training so they won't be bothered with it. It's not that they're lazy about raising their kids, it's that they don't love their kids more than they love themselves, so most of their time is spent on themselves, not their kids. Their kids are nothing more than living toys to them.

That's why they want the state to do it for them.

The saddest part is these parents are unaware of the real problem and so far in denial about it that they'd kill you if you accused them of not loving their kids more than themselves.

Well, this is what happens when you vote for folks who want to shove their personal ideology down your throat. Its going to take alot more of these clowns to wake up a sleeping public.

I'm a little tired of cheerleading/dance teams at high school, also. (and this is in addition to the sex thing)

The coaches tell these girls that their entire lives are to become dance oriented. All that matters is the competition, to the exclusion of all else.

We have state cheerleading and state dance events for which kids get out of school for several days at a time. Why? Because to justify their existence, they created a state competition for it.

It's more important than academics, even more important than family. From age 3 these girls are taught that dance IS their life. They practice at 6AM. They practice until 10 PM. They practice all summer. They practice Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and their entire break.

Then they hit college with all of the other girls that were taught the same thing, and they find out they aren't as good as they thought they were. What then?

And this is small town, rural. I can only imagine what it's like in larger areas.

You can replace "dance" with "volleyball" or "soccer" in many cases, too. Some of the biggest fights I have ever seen between adults are the ones trying to convince students to drop one for the other.

And then 95% of these kids aren't able to compete after high school. No wonder we have kids who struggle academically.

If you had a video of some of the cheerleading routines on your computer hard drive, you have to worry about some government agency hauling your butt in for downloading kiddie porn. Even if it's not pornographic, a lot of it is zero class.
