My most used fob died the other day, so replaced the battery. Just remove the small keyring on the fob and carefully pry open the case. You'll see the battery. It's a 2032 Lithium 3v battery. I bought mine at Advance Auto Parts, $2.98 for a pair. Slip in the new batt, snap it shut, and you're in business. No need to program, it fires up just like the old one.

You should try to take your fob to the dealer if the car is still under warranty. Demand that they warranty the battery replacement. It should be spec'd to last at least 5 years. :D

Do the same thing if the graphics on your button pad is worn. Take it back to the dealer. It should be spec'd to last at least 10 years (although the dealer will only handle it for free under a warranty)

I know, I know it's a pain in the arse. But hey, it makes me smile knowing that the engineers at Alps will have to deal with the returns.

How is the range with the aluminum cover?

I just today ordered the cover, so time will tell.

I am beyond the warranty period.

I think the batt went down because I carry my keys with the remote in my pocket at work, in which there are other keys (for my work vehicle and a master keyset for opening boxes) also in my pocket. I've discovered from time to time that my remote was transmitting inadvertently when I would drive by my car in the parking lot and the trunk would pop open. I think when I moved a certain way or sat down in the trunk, the other stuff in my pocket would push on the buttons.

Tell me more about the remote start setup.

Is it the one that Mercury sells? Is it something that snaps in place of the existing RKE or does it get wired in like an aftermarket remote start?

What is the FCC ID on the back of the Remote Start keyfob?

How is the range of the remote start setup that you have?
