Returning from Arby's a few minutes ago while traveling East on a two lane road with a center turning lane and a stopped Corvette facing West waiting to turn left into a shopping center. .
This POS ricer pulls out of the parking lot right in front of me! :mad2:
Two choices, hit that piece of crap or hit the 'Vette head on.
Hammered the break pedal to the floor at approx. 45 MPH. The beast's shoes dug in hard as my lunch flew out of the passenger seat and under the dashboard while the headlights were practically dragging the pavement.
Slightly drifting left, I managed to steer right heading between the two of them stopping I mean inches from the POS ricer! :)
I am not sure where the 'Vette went, but can guess he saw this coming and throttled out of there as quickly as possible, :bows: giving me more wiggling room thus avoiding a bumper car rally.
The whole time I was yelling and hollaring at that ricer in front of me once we got moving again. Once I pulled into the parking lot at work, I then realized that my moonroof shade was closed! That's some hard braking!
I was also shaking like a dog shi**in' bones.
Well the Roast Beef sandwich was good. . but not that good.
Anyone know a good dry cleaner for my seat and shorts?
Mike.

At least you're safe Mike, also, you didnt get food on the car!!
Did the ricer see you after the fact?

Hell yes he saw me! The inches between us were my passenger side, his driver's side. Almost dead next to one another. He saw me coming and stopped dead in his tracks!
Had he of nailed his little 2 litre, it would have given me more wiggling room.
I do not know how I missed both cars, it was that close man.

Hey Mike. Great to hear from ya! So, in other words, you're saying the stock brakes worked great for a panic stop? How does this compare to other panic stops you may have had in other vehicles, (less heavy)?

I am impressed at how the beast quickly stopped. I always said the brakes were "heavy" feeling, and had to push them considerably harder than my '01 GM.
At first, I did not feel the pedal pulsating but do recall, probably around 20 MPH or so, the pulsating was apparent and the tires were "chattering" at the same time.
The impressive part was the car. For all practical purposes, she went straight, and responded well with steering while all this was going on. :bows:

Hey, that was some great driving! Good for the guy in the Vette, also, 'cause it looks like he did his part to escape getting hit. But, the good driver award goes to you, way to go! :high5:
That's how we keep MY insurence rates down. ;)

Mike, Mike, Mike..... I didn't think that you had aspirations of becoming a crash test dummy. :D ..... anyway, I'm glad to hear that everything is okay. What's strange is how we were just talking about this sort of thing yestrerday.

Did you ever see the movie "My Science Project"? The one guy in there has a remote finger that pops up outta the trunk and lights up:lol:.That would've been perfect..

Glad to hear you avoided that one.
Now, if you want some really good brakes, look into getting the KVRs like I did. It'll cut your stopping distance 50% at least.
Best thing I've done yet. And it's a true bolt on with no modifications and plenty of room for the wheel weights. No compromises, just good racing brakes.

David,
In no way am I questioning high perf. brakes, but have always wondered. .
In a panic situation (hammering the pedal) how do high performance brakes decrease stopping distance when ABS is engaged?
Mike.

It's the fronts that do 85% of the stopping. When you feel those ABS motors running under a panic stop, unless the fronts have hit something slippery, it's the rears that those motors are trying to keep from locking up, not the fronts. And brother, when you get this kit, those rear motors are going to be working overtime! There can be no describing the difference so that you will understand the stopping power these brakes give you like you will when you actually drive one.
I did the math for the swept area, that's the area in square inches on the four sides of the front rotors that the pads pinch, and stock is 214 sq.in., 14" rotors are 316 sq.in., a 48% increase! The kit comes with front calipers that have smaller pistons for added hydraulic advantage to accomodate this increase. Stopping power is awesome!
To quote Fordnut, "I only thought I had good brakes."

Thanks to all for the kind words after my pooper-puckering experience. :)
Man, that's hard on the ticker. Especially since I was just in an accident 2 months ago. :(

No! Not in your area
Sorry... Glad you could leave under your own power:up:
To the Vett guy your his new hero

Not to force my views on anyone, but it may have been divine intervention.

I can attest to those hi-perf brake upgrades providing much better stopping even though I do not have them, because I drove John's car (aka "Jet") and what a difference there is between my brakes and his. I believe that he has the Baer brakes. I noticed the difference immediately as soon as I put my foot on the brake pedal the first time. And he didn't even tell me that he did the brake upgrade until I mentioned how great his brakes work.
