Just got word back from my buddy Bill Hall just back from Northeast Dragway in NC. People can fight abt which is better, Centrifugal or roots, but when it comes to bracket racing it is hard to beat this one. Ran a 7.80 first pass. Then Ed Clark of SCT bumped the shift point up a little and bam, 7.730 and a 7.733. R/T in the .5's. This is a bracket beast. We figure at Petersburg, it should be a 12.1 to 11.9 car. Car definitly is better in the 1/4 than the 1/8 mile by fault of its gurth :) I believe it will bring home the bucks.

Everyone should have a chance to woof a bit... so let me tell you mine ....

With my 2003 Cobra I could turn 12.55, 12.54, 12.55, 12.56 just like clock work. Now my reaction times... faggedaboutit! But I could shift that l'il beastie and it was as consistent a car as I've ever owned.

Bracket competition is what the NHRA was founded on back in the 50s, it's why we have the "christmas" tree that we have today.

Consistency and reaction time is what will get you in the winners' circle. There's a neat little device I've heard about that'll get you under .100 every time and with practice get you down there in the .020s' with the best pros. It's a timer you connect to the line-lock. There's a little knob to adjust the timer and what you do is let off the release when a certain light on the tree goes on and the timer then releases the line-lock automatically.

you cannot neccessarily determine what quartermile ET's a car will ruin simply by looking at the 1/8th mile ET's it turns. The are other things that must be looked at. For instance, what gears does that car have in the rear? What are his 60 foot times, and his 1/8th mile MPH?

My Marauder runs a 7.65 second 1/8th mile, and a 12.0 quartermile. but John's car runs a 7.77 1/8th mile, and the same 12.0 quartewrmile as my car does. My car beats his car off the line, in the 60 foot distance, and in the 330 foot distance also. my car is also ahead of his at the 1/8th mile mark, but during the last half of the 1/4mile, his car catches up to mine, and usually wins the race by a matter of thousands, or hundreths of a second. his car has more boost pressure, but mine has taller gears in the rear.

So the point is, you cannot tell where this guy's quartermile ET will be at just by observing his 1/8th mile ET's. You'll atleast have to consider, the rear gears, 1/8th mile trap speed, and 60 foot times.

I knew someone would have to make a critical comment. Anyhow, this same car went 12.31 at Petersburg last year with a 7.89 at the 1/8mi mark. You cannot guess an exact 1/4 time, but if you are familiar with the car, you can get a close estimate. It's going back to Petersburg this weekend weather permitting. It is a KB Marauder S that has been upped to 9.5lbs boost and has a stallion 3000 convertor and 4.10 gear. Tuned with SCT software.

Sorry guy...I didn't mean to come across as being critcal. Just sharing some gearhead stuff. That's all. Regardless of what S/Cer it has under the hood, or who built it, it's obviously a fast Marauder. With those 1/8th mile ET's, that's no doubt. I just wanted more info, and you've supplied some of it. There are a number of 1/8th mile racers who run real tall gears such as 5.13's just to squeeze out some impressive 1/8th mile times. And I was just wondering if this Marauder you were talking about was one of them. If he ran that same time with 5.13 gears, then the car would be poor in the 1/4 mile. But with 4.10 gears, that's pretty good. Thanks for your reply.
