I just have to let you all in on this...

UPS IS THE BIGGEST GANG OF CROOKS THERE IS...

I had a small incident happen between DHL and my Trunk Lid Liner,
so I had to ship it back to Scott.
I packed it back inside the box it came in and the only thing I added was Bubble Wrap.
How much extra weight could bubble wrap add ?
The whole package of bubble wrap was 50 sq ft and it if weighed 5 lbs,
it was a lot...

So I wrapped up the liner, and sent it back.
The shipping weight to me was 8 lbs, so I shipped it back at 10lbs.
The size of the box is 48x27x1.5 but UPS only accepts WHOLE NUMBERS,
so I shipped it as 48x27x2.
The only additional thing I added was $150 insurance, in case it got lost,
I wouldn't be out the money...

Did all of the paperwork on UPS Online, printed out the airbill,
and dropped it off at the UPS station.
Total charges = $34.16

I shipped it 3 day select, and UPS delivers it a day EARLY !!!

So I get an email from UPS yesterday, about an adjustment to the charges.
Attached to the email is a PDF file...
The PDF file says UPS 'claims' that the package was 47x28x3 and it weighed 20 lbs !!!
They also want to hit me with a FUEL SURCHARGE,
which brings the total adjustment to an additional $10.73 !!!

NEVER AGAIN !!!

What would they have done if I brought it to the counter, and paid cash ???

Just wait till the replacement arrives and take it down to a UPS store and show them. They should credit you for your claim. Just have the new one shipped to you exactly as you returned the old one.

Same box with original label would be good proof.

I can take down the replacement box, but the original is going back to DHL
for a damage claim, so I won't have an original box.

I will take the box unopened, to UPS, have them weigh and measure it,
and see what they say...

I do a ton of shipping with UPS and I think what happened to you was a surcharge for 'dimensional weight". Large boxes that dont weigh a lot still take up lots of room on their planes/trucks and they add a charge to compensate for the extra size. If you brought it in to the UPS store and shipped it there, they would have added the surcharge then. When you do an online ship, I thought it asked you the weiight and size of the box.

All that being said about UPS aside... I've had issues with DHL destroying shipments. A buddy of mine had issues with DHL damaging a shipment AND the replacement shipment that they ultimately paid for.

I think it's DHL policy to damage shipments.

I dropped the box off at the UPS DEPOT !!!

They surcharge they added to the package was for FUEL !
$10 ?? come on...

Scott verified the dimensions and weight for me.
The box weighed 9.5 lbs & its 48x27x1.5 ...
Someone owes me $10, and my business is going to FedEx from now on.

I've never once had any surcharges from FedEx,
over all of the years I've shipped with them.
They are more $$ for larger parcels, but their damage rates are lower,
but the MIA rates are HIGHER !!!

Anyway, I prefer FedEx Ground to UPS. Their rates are lower and their service is better.

True story:
I'm standing outside my office building - a large downtown corporate building - and a homeless guy (quite grubby, and stinks like you-know-what) asks for an extra smoke... As I'm pulling one out of the pack, I'm distracted by a female UPS carrier, who was very attractive. The homeless guy notices that I'm looking away, and turns to see what it is.

He looks the woman up and down and says, "I got a package for you, right here!" pointing to his crotch. She, without binking an eye, replies back "Sorry sir. You don't have enough money to pay for the service, and I don't deal with packages that small!" and walked away.

I called UPS today.

I had a very nice CS Rep by the name of Terry.
I explained to Terry that someone at the transfer station
doesn't know how to measure with a ruler.
The package I shipped was only 1.5" wide, so I had to ship it as a 2" package.
The adjustment claims the package was 3" wide.
So unless the person doing the measurement was suffering from a really bad hangover and was seeing double,
the package still should have only been 1.5" wide, and incidentally, had an ACTUAL WEIGHT of only 9.5 lbs.....

Terry replied, after looking over the adjustment, "I see that you were originally billed for the 2" width, and then rebilled for the 3" width.
I'll reverse the second billing, and credit you back the additional $10.73 you were charged,
and I'll also have a talk with the transfer station dispatcher, to find out what these guys have been drinking and/or smoking!"

That was the easiest adjustment I have never had to fight for...

Good deal. I found out today that FedEx is charging a surcharge for fuel as well. I'm not sure about DHL but they may be also. I think it's industry-wide. Just passing along the info....

I always pay at the counter or at a UPS store (Office Despot, Staples, etc...) and usually I get fair shipping costs.

I shipped my push guard to someone for $10. That thing weighed 50 lb and I wrapped it in a horribe excuse for a box.
